Well, most of the ignition system is simple. Or it is visible. Or it is testable with a multimeter. Or is it scrapeable with a screw driver. Of it is cheaply replaceable.

The only things that are difficult are those which contain electronics, as such, the ignition amp. Every other component is easy to test.

Just replace it and see? Intermotor make them in both 2 and 3 pin...

Spoke to him today and he said it's 100% better but i'm not sure, he never said where the water was. It's nothing to do with the dizzy as before he got hold of it i fitted a recon unit with new pick up and it made no difference.

Noisy i checked, scraped, multimetred, wiped, sprayed, cleaned, replaced every part of the ignition system... tried 3 different coils, 2 dizzies, 4 amps, new plugs, the little black inline resistor from the coil to ecu, ht leads and it made no difference to the misfire. The garage could be right about it being water seeing as none of the above fixed it. I'll have to give the loom a good going over when i get it back and find if there's a short somewhere and fix it as i don't want a horrid missfire everytime it gets wet off road!

Hmmm. Odd one.

Just make sure you seal up the drain holes underneath the dizzy and then fit a breather pipe in the cap or you'll never get it to run it wet conditions!!

Wellllllll....it turned outs that the wire from the -neg side of the coil to the ecu has a squashed up pin on the ecu plug which im guessing gave it odd resistance readings and messed things up! Put another pin on the plug and it's been perfect for nearly a week now.

Why do i always getting the sh***y annoying problems!!

Getting similar problem with misfire.Put on magnecor leads, new rotor in dizzy with now clean contacts and about to change plugs tomorrow. When it starts after standing for a few hours or over night,it's as if it's only running on 4 cyls. This clears after a short while, but still has the misfire, and has become under powered. It runs on lpg,but starts on petrol.I'm starting to think towards maf as had a big backfire on the gas a while back.
I've been thinking of converting to electronic ignition too.Land Rover, Range Rover 35D V8 Electronic Ignition Kit Matching Coil & Powermax Red Rotor Land Rover, Range Rover 35D V8 Electronic Ignition Kit Matching Coil & Powermax Red Rotor [K3 & CS & R5] - £35.19 : Electronic Ignition, Home of the Powerspark

Found my misfire problem was due to a faulty plug! The ceramic had totally gone around the electrode. The plugs were only about 6 months old too. Also went for hotter plugs due to being on LPG. Eventually an easy fix, just wish I'd checked plugs first. Live and learn!

That electronic igniton kit is probably no better than the standard electronic pick up.

I run a mallory electronic dizzy in mine...exspensive but good
