Hi All I am 6 months in from buying my first rangie, had air springs done, dunlops, brake lines done, track rods done, magnecor leads, platinum plugs and Tornado chip, handles well steers well, economy gone from 16mpg ave to 20 +, next job is to have heads and induction system ported. Love it.

Now this is the kind of topic I like to read :)

Which of the things you listed have improved the economy and which did the most?

Why did you change the track rods? Is this uprated or just wear and tear?

Improved economy was noticed with the plugs and magnecore leads, then further improvements with the Tornado chip. Its a GEMS engine with 150K miles on it. The track rods were changed due to wear.

Other than the economy, have you noticed any other real differences with the Tornado chips? I gather they remap the throttle response so you don't have to press it nearly to the floor to make adequate progress. Is this one of the differences? Much difference in power and torque or do you think it just 'feels' faster due to not having to press the loud pedal down quite as much? I'd be interested in your observations.

is the 20mpg off the trip computer or by filling and using and noting the mileage on the next refill??

Also very keen to see your comments on the Tornado chips and also how hard/easy it was to install 'em.

Cheers.

Yes the chips are 800 quid, they do a multitude of things, increase tickover, cranking is longer to allow oil pressure to build, more engine braking, better fuel efficiency more power and torque. Mark Adams is well known in the tuning world working with TVR's and RPI use his chips. Further improvements have been made with the fitment of a Janspeed cat back system, free flow filter plus new cam lifters etc.

I was talking with my mechanic about these chips, I'd rather get a chip than go with an LPG system but then how long would it take to realise the 4mpg gain?

On the other hand I am tempted if the chip makes the engine run more efficiently and maybe extends its life. Oh the extra HP would be nice too ;)
