hi,
im having trouble n was hoping to get some help... can anyonr tell me if its due to my immobiliser playing up that sometimes makes my electrics on my dash play up??? :confused2:

well today i was driving and the speed indicator wasnt working or my idicators... then i parked my car up went back to it to start it but nothing??? it was turning over but that was it. and the ignition light wasnt coming on, i got it going in the end but only through luck and now its home it wont work again???

Hi Christopher73,

Its sounds to me that your ignition switch has failed. Its a known problem and it can lead to some very strange happenings, just like you are experiencing. My Hippo occationally suffers problems, more often when I switch on the ignition then the dashboard lights are on half brightness but the interior fan runs normally (Switch off and back on again to recover, well that works for me). Twice now I have been driving along and suffered total power loss, resulting in the engine cutting as well.

I doubt it is the immobiliser as this would only stop the engine from starting. Try a new ignition switch assembly as a first pass.

Let us know how you get on, you might like to post in the Freelander section as that's where most of us reside.

hi dave,
yes i have had total power loss and dim ignition lights in the past.but its never not started like this. but yesterday whilst i was driving to my destination nothing on the dashboard worked (apart from the imobiliser light) and my indicators wouldnt work either??? so can u go into details on what i should do please

who would i need to go to 4 the ignition switch... could it be a normal garage?

Right, there is a common link in the circuits that can give the problem you describe. I won't go into the details unless you want me to. The first thing to do is to open the interior fuse box door under the steering wheel. In there I recommend you make sure that fuse 8 has not blown. Use your drivers manual to identify fuse 8, its rated at 15A. This fuse powers the instruments and the indicators.

While your at it, check fuse 6, which is 10 amps and powers the engine management unit.

If both fuses are okay, ie the link wire isn't ruptured, then the common component is the ignition switch, and both these fuses are supplied by the same wafer of that switch. Your local dealer will be able to get you a replacement, alternatively an independent LR garage should be able to help you also.

If you find either or both of these fuses are ruptured then report back here and we'll move to the next step.
