out of interest it hasn't been steam cleaned or the engine power washed by any chance is it

seems strange that if u wait for the dashboard lights to come on fully it doesn't start

only thing I can think of as well is a battery drain somewhere ,what volts are u getting out of the battery

did u get any fault codes when it was plugged into a diagnostic machine

could a faulty ignition switch cause this, when it sometimes starts and sometimes it doesn't
are the contacts within the ign switch connecting correctly each and every time ???

just thinking of ideas

i didnt measure the volta comming out from the battery but i dont think thats cause that fail engine start. i didnt steam clean the engine ,as the matter of fact ,i didnt clean the engine at all ,never. i dont know what is the problem but it seems to happen since with coul days. since the winter came the fail start came. today was 2 degrees outside so thats a reason that the engine start or it could be

Around 100.000 miles i think. The engine doesnt turn ,i hear a sound like somethings turning but isnt the engine

u say when this fault shows the engine doesn't turn over, ie the starter motor fails to operate

when this happens it might be an idea to get a multimeter onto the starter motor to see if u have voltage there first

should have also at the battery around 14.4 volts

is the positive and negative leads ok,

when u first turn the ignition on the sound could be your fuel pump coming on

need to start with the battery then go through it step by step with a multimeter to eliminate things as u go along

take ur time and make sure u don't skip any tests

if u also say it's only been a problem since the cold weather started are the glow plugs ok

maybe when u leave the ignition on the battery may not have enough guts to trun the engine over and the glow plugs drain it, but if u put the key in and turn it straight away maybe u don't give the glows enough time to heat up and thus saving some battery voltage

plse let us know how u get on

start with the battery first and hope u get it sorted out

gstuart ,i will check it step by step when ill have so free time . last night i thought to take har for a ride since ahe started yesterday and i saw that the rpm didnt pass 2500 ,she cut the fuel off and the check engine appears again on the dash but only when i pass 2500

Well the rev limiting will almost certainly be due to fuel lift pump or filter under the wheel arch.

I don't know whether a total loss of fuel lift would result in the high pressure pump disabling the starter motor. Others with more experience of the TD4 will probably comment.
