is the oil black ?id prefer to see whats failed first ,ive built quite a few if you need any ideas

hi james martin no the oil was a clean red when changed but might of been done just before i brought it but as i go up steep hills is starts to slip and if i kick down just revs up and dash illuminates like a Christmas tree and just cut engine off then i have to restart engine to clear and go again
ive seen a basic description by a chap called chris cowdery on google of him rebuilding one and i feel confident about doing it myself just wanted some tips and advise really and would love to pick your brains now and again if ok
Regards
jay

ps as for the other two peoples comments i dont think its a good way to welcome new members with rude sarcastic comments just makes you look like idiots but maybe thats just how i see it

Take it you didn't have a proper look around before you signed up and didn't read the intro page either if you're bitching about that……..

if oils red i wouldnt think you need clutch plates maybe freewheel clutch ,if you remove bell housing ,pump housing you can the remove clutch pack A and B,remove sump and valve block and little c clips and springs ,then under each spring is a rubber seal there is a tool but a you can modify a nail to pull then out ,you can then remove clutch pack c in the pack is a freewheel clutch check that

thanks james martin i will be atempting this next week will remove box and dismantle and check the freewheel clutch
Ashcroft Transmissions - ZF Master Rebuild Kit this is the kit i was thinking of buying will i need any thing else for the rebuild or is that all i need?

dr evil OK ill take it as banter and except every one needs to laugh in life i just took it the wrong way sorry

Have you checked there is enough oil in the box, it holds a good 9 litres. You have to move the gear selector through each gear from D TO 1 then back again slowly while topping up, i believe most of the oil is held in the torque converter while only a few litres are present in the sump, maybe worth a try before stripping out the box.

To be fair mate, since you put a dont feed the noob smiley on the bottom of your first post the guys must have thought you were up for a laugh. Oh well.....

4x4 yes i know i asked for it just very stressed yesterday sand bit when i shouldn't have but hey im up for a laugh and will take my dressing down for being a idiot hey it only life lol

eddmco yes i defiantly topped box up properly as i done this loads of times and all is when so Ive now decided to rebuild my self as i really want the challenge and from other mechanics Ive spoken to the zf gearboxes are very easy to do.

hi thor i did think this but would that affect the kick down and make it slip?
and when rebuilding im going to put ashcrofts uprated v8 T/C

Unless you are a 100% sure as to problem you could be spending your money wrong......... And yes to your question. look at all 3 links .......... but the third will probably should be the first to look at

hi thor thankyou very intresting i aslo noticed if she was left for a few days it would take a few seconds and hi revs before she will move but is then ok except up hills does this still sound like T/C?
