Last week my starter began playing up on my 1999 TD5 - sometimes starting first time, other times click/clunk on the solenoid 2 or 3 times before starting. I know what this problem is and intend to fit a contacts kit to fix it.
However, this morning, I came to start it, same problem, but then when it did fire up, it immediately died when I released the key.
I noticed that the dash lights were only lit with the key in position 3 (start). In P2, there were no lights, therefore as soon as I release the key it dies.
Strangely, auxiliary accessories are receiving power at P2 just no dash lights.
I've checked all earths, and connections to the starter.
Would the solenoid internal contacts problem affect the ignition circuit in this way?
