Last week my starter began playing up on my 1999 TD5 - sometimes starting first time, other times click/clunk on the solenoid 2 or 3 times before starting. I know what this problem is and intend to fit a contacts kit to fix it.

However, this morning, I came to start it, same problem, but then when it did fire up, it immediately died when I released the key.

I noticed that the dash lights were only lit with the key in position 3 (start). In P2, there were no lights, therefore as soon as I release the key it dies.

Strangely, auxiliary accessories are receiving power at P2 just no dash lights.

I've checked all earths, and connections to the starter.

Would the solenoid internal contacts problem affect the ignition circuit in this way?

could be ign switch, you can muck about with the spades to test.

think it's LR039638

An update - there is power to the correct circuits at P1 and P3 but dead at P2 (relay behind fuses clicks at P2 presumably switching off). The auxiliary accessories are only live at P1 and P3 also, not P2.
It does seem to point to the ignition barrel.

that part LR039638 fits on the end of the barrel so you don't need to change the entire thing. double check the part no though
