Provided you are competent (knowledge + experience) you can do your own work. There are some jobs you are not supposed to do yourself, and require a proper electrician, such as installing a complete new circuit from the consumer unit, working on the consumer unit, outdoor electrics. I recently did a load of work on my dottir's house - additions to the existing ring circuits, upgrading some circuits, removing redundant items etc. She had a spark in a couple of weeks ago to put in a new cooker supply from the consumer unit, fitted a new consumer unit and checked all circuits, and certified the lot.
That's the way to do it.

Inherited house not council property. Due to my mother declining physical ability. Manchester social services assessment for alterations to the house via grant scheme. With a percentage cost to the owner on financial ability. I think it was the council who hire outside contractors for property alterations.But thats major work and a (council property?) so yes it needs checking.

The only snag I've got is the removal of the through floor lift and restoration of floor and ceiling. Not cheap when I got a quote for the task by the original fitters. Still filling my piggy Bank for future coverage.

Mine will do seventy quite quick for two bricks mating, bits threaten to fall oft thereafter..I am lucky to get to 70mph for long enough to even try and measure it

36 sockets & switches, new fusebox & everything else that goes with it. House empty & all floor coverings have been removed.
Yes all certified but still sounds an mighty high price me is thinking he doesnt want the job so has priced it high. We will wait n
see as there are a couple more leccy peeps coming out to price it.

What price do peeps think it would cost to totally rewire a small 2 bedroom house. The house next to us has been sold
& for 2 days work to rewire it he's been quoted 7.5k
Sounds high but depends on quality ov finish. Are they going to lift floor boards or more likely cut them to lift sections. Lot ov wuk to do if replacing all wires on a full rewire. Peeps under estimate just how long it takes. Down ere in the civilised world yer looking at 2k5 for a 3 bed semi wiv normal plastic sockets, ferra full rewire. Praps gerrin near 3k.
As part ov the rules down ere the council have to be advised ov wuk. Partial or full rewire and change ov dist board requires council notified. Same fer window, external door and heating boiler change. All has to be done by qualified person. Yer can't get away wiv yer squirrel doing it then gerra qualified spark in to sign oft. A lot do but its on the sparks back if there's trouble. Tis why a lot won't sign oft others wuk so there's an option ov paying the council to inspect. They send a known contracter in. And job protection ov the trade is why some won't touch. Some treat it like a 10 year inspection and say nowt about rewire. There's no way a spark will lift floors to check joints ain't bin drilled/cut to thin and cable terminated rightly propper like. They should know if they didded the wuk themselfs. They limit non qualified squirrels to chsnging sockets and switches only.
If the house is empty and no floor coverings then its a dream job as yer can access anywhere. No furnature int way. Can drop cables into plaster wiv no fear ov decorating cost problems. 4k would be high. 7k5 they seem yer bags ov free cash.

Finking about it squirrels would be good at rewires as they can gerrunda floor boards easy if yer lift one and wunt have any trouble wiv loft insulation. Take the seeling rose oft and pop him frew the hole. No messin at height. He'll climb the wall to get to outside lights. If yer up a ladder and drop a screw he'll nip down and gerrit for yer. Wondering if eye could train mine to clear gutters. Would make a nice little business. Shame they can't do windows. Mine need cleaned.
