One of those came with my pressure washer. The brass thing at the jet end (which helps to propel it forward along a pipe) is still in me tratter chassis, been there for about ten years.
And does it rattle around?
I once heard a story about a car built in the days when cars had chassis.
The first-time owner found it had a funny rattle and as it was new he brought it to the garage to get it found and fixed.
They went all over the car, couldn't find anything.
Eventually after the owner had brought it back loads of times someone found the noise was coming from inside a piece of box section on the chassis. They cut it open and found some disgruntled worker on the production line had welded a biggish nut to a piece of wire, then welded that to the top of the section so the nut would "bong" around. and also a note saying something rude about his employers which ended up with something about how much this was going to cost them to find and repair!

Changed me power steering fluid yesdi. Its hydraulic oil. Took the out pipe oft the reservoir and fitted it to the new one. Then tipped new oil in. Lifted the front to take the weight oft the wheels then manually turned the steering wheel left un right to pump the oil round. Took a while but wurked. Kept tipping new oil in and used me new oil sucker to get the old oil oot the old reservoir. Put 2L through it to clean it oot. Propper chf202 stuff from opie oil. Then connected the new reservoir up. Old one oot. Engine on and level dropped a bit. Topped up and turned steering left un right. Ma hippo's well appy. The reservoir contains a filter. Yer hafter change the whole fing. Many years ago freelander 2's suffered from blocked filters due to muck in the system from manufacturing.

I must admit I was wondering why, since the liquid is supposed to be "for life", you were doing this. So was it really dirty and /or did it have bits in?

No bits innit. But it was dirty. Its green fluid. Green when thin but in a bottle looks black when new, wiv green on the thin edges. What came oot was green with brown innit. Ain't snapped the filter open yet. LR use a lot of filled for life oils but as you know they're not really. Its filled for the life of the car which is normally 7 or 10 years. After that they can't gurantee the rubber in everyfink. So the car is deemed end of life.

Engine oil goes black assit picks up muck from the burn process. Auto oil goes darker due to picking up very fine wear of the brake bands. Eye wonder why me steering fulid went darker or a bit brown. It soaks in heat from being used in the steering process. Eye assume some from the steering pump itself, as well as the pump passing on heat it absorbs from the engine. Simular to transfer box and diff oil. They darken wiv use.

Fair enough.
Must admit it is a bit like changing brake fluid, it is something we all should do but even garages don't do it.
But that is one I do pretty regularly.
Agree totally about the concept of "life" in a car, or anything else that comes with a "lifetime guarantee".
I did once years ago have a battery that came with a lifetime guarantee, from I think Charlie Browns, now long gone, but they kept on replacing it free of charge even though I was using it on different cars. It only stopped when Charlie Browns went!
And how many ornery punters replace their axles' oils?

Found some other "tools" int shed, long fencing posts, painted steel, long, narrowish tubes about 1" diameter, galvy steel, left over when sent in error with the kit for the polytunnel.
So was able to bash around a bit whatever is at the bottom of the drainage pipe, couldn't clear it though.
Then used a funnel and the bit of tube to pour 1 litre of 30% sodium hydroxide down. And then rattled it all around with the fence post.
I am strongly afeared that what is at the bottom of the pipe is grit and small pebble type stuff that must have got in there when the two pipes came detached under the surface of the ground. Combined with fatberg. So leaving the Na OH to do its stuff, if it can cos.......

House is a mess as I have been concentrating on this rather than tidying up and as I cannot use the dishwasher, or the drains at all, I am now reduced to washing up with a plastic bowl and a slop bucket. :(:(:(

According to the news report I read it was anchored just off shore, the mast broke and it was that that somehow tipped it over, if we are talking about the same yacht.
"They also said Bayesian was anchored when it was struck by the wind. Karsten Borner, the skipper of a nearby boat, was quoted by Reuters as saying he was using his motor to maintain control of his own vessel and to avoid a collision with Bayesian when the weather hit. Bayesian “went flat [with the mast] on the water, and then went down”, he said."

Im sure it said that boat had one of the highest masts in the world. :oops: Ive seen boats with snapped masts it does some
amount of damage.
 
Taking my wee neebs to the hospital as her boyfriend (70) had a fall the other day & smashed his face & broke 3 ribs. :(:(
He was in his sheltered housing flat & fell but didnt press his button for 3 hours as he didnt want to disturb anyone as it
was really early. 😢 Poor auld gent has now gone down hill & seams to be in a bad way.

Old peeps do have to be caerful about this.
I knew of an old bloke back in about 82 who died because he fell in the bathroom onto the bath, his ribs cracked and did more damage than he thought. Din't want to bother his wife so neve told her.
Didn't want to bother anyone so by the time he was finally seen to it was too late!
Also a colleague's mum who lived in Spain, north coast somewhere.
Went to visit relations in Madrid, died of a heart problem that she had told no one about. None of the rest of the family could be with her. Buried within 24 hours.

So very very sad. Hope the poor old bloke recovers.:(:(:(

Car's all done. Started it y'day and is now finished. Also, they fitted a replacement filler hose I supplied and discovered the reason for the "trickle-only" fill-ups. The anti theft/siphon device had snapped off and was blocking the tank spigot.
Off to collect it now. Many £'s lighter, but all done. :D
