Here's a thing, read in the local paper today about how much, like seriously "HOW MUCH?????" dosh the French govt gives political parties especially around election time.
Couldn't believe it.
The amount of money given to parties and political groups for 2024 was.......
€66,438,848.34)
WHAT???
(This is divided up between 34 political parties. (34! )
So I had to look it up.
Explains it all.
OK, I get that they don't want rich peeps influencing govt, which is a good thing, but all the same.....
This was under the heading "Lack of respect for parity will cost certain political parties a lot."
This is because if the numbers of wimmins in the party and in the parliament belonging to any party doesn't closely match the number of blokes they get penalised in their coffers. One micro-party with only 11 women as opposed to 48 men will be fined €2million. Per year! So they will be clawing a bit back, and they aren't the only party in bother for this. There are currently 16 parties in the parliament so nearly half didn't even win a seat.
I think if this hasn't sent you to sleep then it is in danger of doing so, so I'll be off
sleep tite folks.

How French parties and politicians are funded
There are strict rules as to how French political parties are funded, relating to both private donors, party members, businesses and the state. Here is France24's guide:
