Didn't help matters when I got jabbed several times. The only thing I could think of was strip my jacket and stand out in the downpour to calm myself down from panicking. I had to walk to the small medical hut saturated for emergency help. Lucky enough I described it as a black scorpion, which they put on sulfur paste on.
As I mentioned before I felt knackered for two weeks. Might have been with the 100° humidity and being ill.
 
No, they were all on French plates. I am wondering if the sons didn't realise the value of them as they were not exactly the most classic of classic cars, also I wouldn't be at all surprised if they weren't pretty well wedged up anyway and just didn't need the money. They all needed recommisioning so a bit more like barn finds than drivers. But buying and selling cars in Frogland involves a lot more paperwork than in the UK. One and only car I ever bought over here back in 1978 it cost me 500 francs just to change ownership! The car only cost 2500 francs! I was shocked to say the least.

Thing with kit cars is that in order to sell the kits the manufacturers had to design ones that would accept parts from common donors, so they used Cortinas, old RWD Escorts, Triumph Heralds/Vitesses, Aircooled Beetles, Jags, then Sierras, BMWs, etc.
After a while they struggled to find RWD donors, so things got a bit trickier, and pricier. Or they used FWD and designed mid engined kits, so they could put the engine at the back!

Ah I see, they would have needed work - they probably couldn't be bothered.

Still a bit of a surprise though, someone else might have wanted to do something with them and being on French plates, a fair bit of cost will have already been incurred in the import process. As you say, maybe they didn't need the money/want the hassle.

We don't know how lucky we are in the UK really with the ease of vehicle transfers. When I bought my Santana the transfer was at least €100 and I paid for the transfer when I sold it as well, it can be an advisable course of action because you are sure it been done then. If not, you can find yourself liable for ongoing tax, parking/speeding fines etc.

Re. the kit cars, I recall another favourite was engines out of Marinas, presumably the ones Jezza hadn't dropped a piano on...
 
Was avvin me brekfust and heard me squirrel climbing me fence. The hanging plant climbing frame fing bangs on said fence when they climb up it. Eye looks oot the kitchen window and see's him going up then on me garage to the apex. Turns round looking into me kitchen. Eye grabs a nut and moves to the window to open it. He'd already started making his way down. When on me slabs eye dropped a nut oot me window. We both seen where it went. He went straight to it.

Yesdi when eye went oot me kitchen door he ran oot from under me other fence into me garden. Stopped after 8 foot looking at me ferra few seconds. Eye paused. Then he hopped oft down me garden. Normally he'd be gone like a bullet but not this time.

Yes they just needed recommissioning, from what I gather. But it is all the more surprising because classic cars in France go for about twice the price they go for in the UK. I thought of buying one over here but there aren't many I feel would justify the price. I'd like to have one just to run around in over the 6 months we spend here, but we don't have a garage.....
I'd be quite happy with an old Renault 5 or something like it, a Citroen Dyane would be good as they are much, much cheaper than the well-overpriced 2CV. It would save us having to cart W's Citroen Pluriel back and forth.
I don't know what country you ar in but the mention of a Santana make me think eSpain.

A and B series engines are not that hard to get hold of I would have thought and the B series in a Marina is not as good as one from an MGB as the crank isn't so strong.
My Marlin Roadster is a Marina based kit although the suspension is radically altered. As it only has a 4 speed box I'd really like to change it for an MGB so I could replace both engine and box and get MOD. @kevstar 's one had that I think. Quite a few surprisingly built them with the A series engine, and then tuned them, couldn't see the point myself!
But the Pinto 2000 (and maybe the 1600) engines are the sought after ones, and I have one spare plus another cylinder head for if I ever get chance to play!
 
Big shop day today!
So off out soon for a nice lunch then to fill the boot of the Pluriel. Probably gonna be a "two trolley" job.
Water went off again at 8 O'clock this morning and it also went off for two hours on Tuesday morning.
Still it'll be back on again at lunchtime!

Something a bit weird just happened!
A bloke arrived at our gate with a boot full of beautiful Persian carpets. I asked him who told him to come and see us, he waved his arms about gestured diwn the road and said "someone up there, right up there" we don't know anyone "up there" all our friends are "down there"!
The story is that his dad died, in Castres, and he had a shop selling all sorts of exotic middle eastern products, "someone" told him to come and see us because we might be interested in them. He was emptying the shop. He allegedly "comes from Paris" and "Doesn't give a monkey's"
He started saying he was going to "give them away" then when we got talking money things suddenly went right up.
Have to say they were beautiful, especially a big one, 3 metres by 2 metres, deep dark luscious red etc etc. Allegedly the normal price would have been €15k which we could quite believe.
But we just got a feeling about it all, so we sent him on his way.
Someone, somewhere still thinks we are rich and stupid Brits!
Shame though as they were really nice! ;)

He also told us not to sell them on, how dumb can you get!?
 
Cheared up this afternoon, managed to get going on spare wheel carrier, should finish today.
Its gone very warm so might get thunder 🙂
