Looked across the fields this morning and thought I saw snow on the ground in the distance. Got my binoculars out and saw that the fields were flooded, could see the flood defence embankments on the river had breached and water was pouring out. The river is tidally locked and the authorities shut the gates overnight as it was high tide, so nowhere for the water to go except overtopping. But I is safe as Wimblowdriver Towers is on higher ground.

I hope it stays "distant" and you stay "dry" nothing worse than a soggy home.

Did they close the gate when the tide was low to stop the tide filling the river, so the river could take a load of rain instead? Thats the usual thing they try.
