Deliberately staying away from the pooter for a little while.
I started the Visa process. As usual the bit I have to do with the French gouvernement website went fine, but now I cannot even log on to the TLScontact website as it is so poop. It is incapable of giving you/remembering/renewing a password for you to enter your account.
This is the 4th time I have been through this process and it only went smoothly the first time. It is always the fault of the website. Designers and peeps who run it. All should be sacked and replaced with peeps who can actually do the job.
Grr!

Used my paraffin gun to wash some engine parts today. But put diesel in it on account of a Wimblowdriver Towers shortage of paraffin. Did a great job of the cleaning. But now all the clothes and overalls I was wearing stink of diesel. As did I. Bath and change of kit and I'm back to normal(ish).

You need them disposal overalls, I bet paraffin costs more than diesel, but you can get some very good water based one's now plus thay smell nice did under the defender last summer on my back no problems🛁🛁🛀

Mr. Bodgit been there before you?
Well, I am an absolute novice at cars and tuning etc. etc.
But..... Not connecting the 2 crankcase breather outlets to the inlet side of the system and leaving the inlet port they are meant to be fed into on the SU Carb open to the atmosphere is really asking for trouble with your fuel mapping I think.
Cruising the web and watching the expert (Mr. AC Dodd) I am getting a feel for how bad this might/must be.
However, on the PLUS +++++ side I spoke with the car's previous owner today and he confirmed that AF insurance accepted an agreed value of £18000 on this car last year. Now, I got the car for £12.95 (did I previously mention that? ;) ) so I am not inclined to look the gift-horse too closely in the mouth at this stage. I will sort out the plumbing and set it up as best I can before getting Mr. Dodd to tune it properly. :D
Here is "Gwen" at last years Mini Fair show (3rd from left in the front row).

And here she is taking part in the "Riviera Run" in Cornwall.

I looked for paraffin last year, I think, I could only find it in B&Q at an excruciating price. They keep it for greenhouse heaters.

Using oil catch cans is quite common.

And you can always plug the inlet to the carb.
I am wondering why you talk of mapping an SU carb. Mapping is for chips for ECUs, carbs have to be tuned and set up correctly. Was this just a senior moment? 🤣 🤣

Do you use it much? I only got it for my Primus stove and Tilley lamps, that time a coupla years back when it was thought we would have power cuts.
I even brought my genny back from France just in case.

I dont use it at all now, we used to use it every week for the stove when out climbing/camping.
My dad has got the stoves in his shed but I might order some just for the smell of it. 🤣

Keep meaning to check the reg of my Last Mini, the one I tuned right up, on the Gov.uk site to see if its new owner ever did it up/got it back on the road as he said he would.
The pics with the reg plate on are on tother pooter in the study, I'll have a look during the ads. I'm watching that thing, "Forensics: catching the killer."
