Fitted a few. I don't have or use a gun, just a long bolt, washer and nut. Works every time for me.

Quite right.
Actual litmus paper was already a colour. It turned from blue to red for acid and then red to blue for alkali, universal indicator was for posh peeps!! You then had to do stuff, I think, like titration to work out the exact amount of acididity but I am hazy on that. tis 41 years since I (just) passed my chemistry A level!!
I beleive Maggie Thatcher once did a thing for kids on the telly where she made some stuff that acted like litmus paper. The Frogs call it "papier tournesol" although the indicator is not the actual sunflower stuff, it is "certain lichens"

Re' hinge oils/lubricants...White Spray Grease for car and heavy doors, good old GT85 for lighter doors. Both are excellent.

Weather wise, that was some rainfall overnight...

the new defender seats came yesterday also!

Quite a chilled morning apart from moving a 100t barge with no steering or engine all good fun.
Steering was from the rib either side of the aft which was good fun.

Nice dry wee morning, that could change as its looking a tad dull.
