.... Ring-Ring.
Dad! MY patio door has broken and it is stuck halfway open and I can't get it closed or fully open.
My initial thought was "And your telling me because?".
After a bit more grovelling and whining from him I agreed to go look at the problem.

We took the sliding pane out and yup! Both runners were shot with one of them missing all of its ball-bearings.
Now this has NOT happened in an instant, we replaced both runners this Spring with new ones.
But clearly it is a problem he has been ignoring for some time.

He has NEW doors coming on Monday, but how to close the hole in the wall so the dogs can be let in and out still?
I measured the size of the hole and nipped back home.
Two overlapped 48 x 32 inch 12mm plywood offcuts from my shed and some screws and battens and a temporary lightweight sliding door was made in-situ. It is crude and it works to keep the wind & rain out.

@Hippo might like yer bits of ply when yer son has finished with it. For his slidy snooker table :p

I use motorcycle chain lube on my locks and doors for maintaining them, has PTFE in it so I know it's good for moving parts. Other half said what are you doing with the front door and your muc off 🤣
You can get a white lubricant in a stick. I've had mine for donkeys years. It is particularly good for door locks, latches etc cos if you accidentally get it on your clothes it washes off.

I used to get spray grease sold specifically for mocycle chains. But now just get comma general purpose spray grease. And use it for lubing everything that needs lubing (no smut please) - bike chains, locks, hinges, wiper spindles, bonnet catches and so on.

My front door latch parts have to be greased with spray "white Lithium" grease. But the lock itself is NOt to be greased, only a light graphite application (using the key itself).
