It was of course an accident. If you haven't seen the film it is actooly funny.
As an advertising exec he decides to try out a whole load of female's products, so, wearing nail varnish, mascara, lipstick and tights. Having "treated" his hair he was drying it near the bath, when he dropped a pot of "bath balls" they went all over the floor, he slipped on them, into the bath the hairdryer went flying and ended up in the bath with him!
Which ended up with him being able to hear women's thoughts.
