We have two Merkin style fridge freezers and worked like mad to find ones with no ice or water dispensers. It isn't that hard to use an ice tray and imagine leaving it 6 months unplugged and open as we do with both?
As it is they both work just fine.
(He said, smugly!)
Morning, I'm so proud you managed to survive the weekend.Morning all, have a great day!
Glad you have sorted it out.... That the Samsung woes continue.
We got this "Frost-Free" freezer defrosted yesterday so no more noise from the air distribution fan's blades hitting the build-up of ice/frost inside the freezer.
But, the ice-maker would then make (but not dispense) ice, neither in cubed or crushed form (1st World problems eh?).
Been online and the Samsung website is generic and of no practical help at all.
Scoured YouTube and nothing showing this model type.
Undeterred, I unlimbered the IBM customer Engineer in me and fooled the reed switch on the door-hinge with a small magnet so I could press the "gimme-ice-you-Ba$tard-thing" button with the door wide open so I could see what was happening. I could see the mechanism operating but clearly it is disconnected from (reality) the ice-bin operating arm with the ice-bin removed.
Problem: Ice bin is a loose/sloppy fit on its moulded rails and may not slide all the way home because it fouls on the drive dogs for the ice-crusher. What a crap design!!
Either make it a positive lock or impossible to close the door if the thing is not fully home, not a halfway measure P.O.S. like a dick in a bucket.
Solution: Turn the ice delivery corkscrew paddle (like an Archimedes screw) so it does NOT foul on the drive dogs and can be slid all the way home.
Result: Ice delivery resumes. But why make it so hit & miss and awful? Possibly to gain Service Tech Call outs and Ice-maker parts sales.
Thanks, this makes decent ice of good size and can make up to 120 cubes a day, the ice-maker is ok, its the bin and delivery mechanism's that are poor.Glad you have sorted it out.
When it the restaurant business, in one place we just used stacks of ordinary ice-trays in a freezer. Worked just fine.
Then in the next place they had an ice machine. Stand-alone jobby. Twas rubbish. the ice formed on the rotating thing then dropped off, but didn't get any colder, so I could use it but the drinks never got really cold and the ice buckets turned to water in no time. Hopeless. Like looking at lumps of faintly solid water.
"class actions"??? wow!!!.Thanks, this makes decent ice of good size and can make up to 120 cubes a day, the ice-maker is ok, its the bin and delivery mechanism's that are poor.
Looking online there are lots of "Class Action" law-suits against Samsung America for failures of Samsung refrigeration products.
My eightieth today but totally ruined all celebrations as I have been very poorly for six days with food poisoning. I am hoping it is now on the wane but the thought of food or drink, other than a sip of water, is just a real turn-off.
