@DanClarke how has the single point screw cutting gone? I will have to do a video soon on the subject. I just put up a short for a friend who wanted to see a vfd running an old lathe.

Hi Brian,
I posted my results the other day, you must have missed it in post https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/i-would-just-like-to-say.225175/page-3332#post-5328852

I managed It, but I had nothing to test the thread with as the only bit of round bar stock I had was an odd size (20mm).
I have also bought myself a metric threading dial to go on the lathe (metric screw) and I am hoping that as the gearing is what changes it from Metric to Imperial, the lathe won't care as long as I always start on the same point on the dial.
I am glad your new VFD is working well.
I was moaning to the missus about the limitations of the Chinese lathe and bless her, she suggested I buy a "proper one then". LOL. :)

Sorry I did miss that, the thread form looks good. If you make a nut first, you can make the bolt to suit ;)
I think that once you have learned as much as you can on your present lathe you could replace it with a better quality one and sell the original to offset some of the cost.
But having two lathes is twice as good..... :p

I remember that film, he kept on buying models of airplanes and soaking off the transfers to stick on pay slips or summat. Or am i thinking of the wrong fillum?
I (lucky bloke) once rode in one, an assistant chef at Bath Uni where i worked had one, well her husband's. She took me home in it, all the way to Keynsham, i think I was carless for a bit. She didn't flog it along, she just said "when you've got one you don't need to show off in it!" White wiv black leather interior. Her husband was a big black guy, mind you she was no slim Judy neither! Nice girl though!
i am currently on my second large brandy and ginger and looking forward to roast chicken wiv all the rest!! Wifey is actually cooking it.:eek::eek:

Yup thats the film ;) We are going oot for a pub dinner njoy yer roasty. :):)
Ya lucky bugger being in one of them.:cool:

But that may make 2 parts that work together but don't work with anything else?
I need to make these threads compatible with the standard Bicycle threads of other bits that I need to buy in.
The stuff I need to make is custom to my application of those parts. :)

Ah in that case you will have to purchase either something with the external or internal thread to use as a gauge. Once you have one you can make the other and keep them as 'standards' to work to.

My plan is to try and make the bit I want and test as I go by trying to wind the matching piece onto it. When it winds on nicely/well at the one end I will assume it is all true & parallel. :)

When I worked in the hotel I had to park some of the guests' cars. One cheeky beggar left his Aston Martin DBS right outside the front door, he chucked me his keys as he came in the door asking me to park it for him.
I was only 17 and I'm not sure I had even passed my test.
Parking was very small so I had to park most of them up a side street and exiting the hotel was a bit dodgy as it was onto a fast but narrow road through a narrow entrance.
At first i thought it was just a posh Capri as i couldn't see it properly cos it was so close to the door, but once i climbed in, smelled the leather and saw the AM insignia in the centre of the steering wheel i sh!t myself, got out, found the owner and told him he'd have to shift it himself!
Hope you enjoyed your dins!:):):)
I'm still on the brandies, W has gone to bed!:D:D:D
