While I had a chance today I called the income tax department at me Government to find out what's going on with me tax return as I filed it back in May but haven't heard anything since.
Normally when I owe them some money they are pretty damn quick in requesting it but because they owe me almost £1000 they are dragging their heels.
Apparently the tax returns are being processed in date order but they couldn't tell me where they were currently up to so I would just need to be patient.

Because I was a 40% tax payer when working, I have just had 40% taken from my £8k draw down! I will have to claim it back in April next year

It makes me realise just how lucky we are over here with regard to income tax when I read that.
