Typical Welsh weather is certainly wetter than the flatter lands away from the west coast. When it rains it doesn't know when to stop but equally, when it is hot and sunny it seems to hold that longer, too. But the scenery is just superb, we are rarely subject to droughts, although sometimes we are asked to go easy on its use if we have had a prolonged spell of drought. And last but not least, our gardens etc. are always looking green and you certainly get more property for your money than living in the south of England.Same here
Just come in for our dins after taking 20 mins or so to ourselves, sat out on the deck watching all the birds we have in our garden. We have so many trees and so much vegetation in the form of laurel bushes etc, the birds just love it. Some of our neighbours don't like all our trees cos we is to the sarf of them. But the heck with them.
Sometimes I get just a little twinge of regret that I don't know more about birds, can hardly tell one from another, except for the obvious ones.
If I find the time I'll have to photograph one or two and look em up ont net.

I know H. quite well as that area is the birth place of my Husband and we spent a lot of our time around there. Coastal properties are stupid prices which I wouldn't pay! A little inland is far better. If you do go down that way, do visit the beach at Newgale, apart from a pub, cafe and a surf shop there are no other signs of the usual 'attractions!! It's a wonderful, wide , sandy beach which is backed up by pebbles which help to protect the area from the tidal breeches - have a look on google street view. This season of tourists is short! Farmer's fields are turned into temporary camp sites to cater for the flocking beach worshipers and surfers!We have looked at a property in Haverfordwest looks really nice. I forgot to say - that area of Pembrokeshire is know as 'Little England beyond Wales'. It is all English speaking, the 'Lansker Line' separates the Welsh speaking Cardiganshire peeps from the English speaking Pembrokeshire residents.Same here

If we moved to Wales, I would have another stab at it. I did try a few years back (20 or so!) but without daily trying or someone to talk to, I found it very difficult. Did your husband become fluent and did you also learn any?
He was never able to reach the fluency in the spoken language for the reasons you state but his depth of 'fluency' in the written language was excellent. We had frequent visits from a Welsh native speaker asking Bernard to explain things to him!!!
Forgot to add - in spite of his efforts with me he had to agree languages were a total mystery for my ear! The obvious small amount did sink in and I have no difficulty in understanding the simple stuff.
But English remains my language.
