Eye use the option of having a strong well maintained vehicle, shackles and rope. Use what everer option available to reduce forces involved. If that means letting someone else use their vehicle instead, then so be it. Saves my clutch pack burning oat if they want to take over.

Eye never get involved wiv snatch recovery. Forces involved are too high for me. Eye once seem a 110 try it on a play and pay site. Knocked the chassis out of alignment so the rear end wasn't at a right angle to the sides. Only by a small amount. They were busy looking round it at the panels and opening and closing doors. Typical knuckle head tratterers... they fixed it wiv the use of a strap round a tree and tugging until the chassis rails were level again. Well sort of.
I understand that, I would not risk permanent damage. I also know how steel reacts and how to design and implement modifications that improve the vehicle.

Find out what type of drive it is. Normal spinning or solid state ssd. The later being more reliable.

Yer can easily put a biggerer drive in. Transfer old drive content to new.

Not sure why yer gorra nuvva machine. Old one just needed a keyboard if eye remembers correctly.

Yer best to have all yer files on yer phooter. Then have two separate backup drives. Make a regular backup to both, in case one fails. Cloud options are available. Some are free but only for a short time or limited space.
Blokey int shop said first of all, as the pooter really is tatty, (apart from the fecked up keyboard, the power input is held together with packing tape, the hinges are visible, the screen surround is cracked in two places, the mousepad thing is worn, the battery holding in clips, one has bust, etc) it would be simpler to transfer the drive into another pooter.
So I left it with him to do, having paid for the new pooter.
When I went back to see him he was saying it would be too tricky to swap the drives and there was a risk of "deletions" so he would just transfer all my stuff from one drive to the other.
So I left him with it again.
The new drive is not SSD, it says HDD on the label. So like my old one only less storage.
As I mentioned I already have the WD My Drive thing which functions fine, I have a 90 gig separate hard drive and as i am keeping the old pooter I can keep the originals of my old files on it as now, having uninstalled the keyboard, it works fine with the plug-in keyboard.
Like a kid buying a car, I have been a mug. fortunately it hasn't cost me much and I have bought myself the time I need to be able to think about all this a bit harder.
Every day is a school day!
And thanks again for all your help.:):):):)

A win 7 will upgrade to 8 or 10 usually. Yer may find a small problem with the hardware but not always. My desktop will go from 7 to 10 soon, but needs a newer wifi plug int module as the current one int supported by drivers that run in 10. When it goes to 10 it will have some stuff disabled like that corona walrus search fing. An additional program installed to give win 7 style start menu.

The size of yer hard drive is only part if the spec. How many processors yer gottid, their speed, amount of ram and its speed etc make up the real power it has. Size of drive is important but the speed of the drive also makes a big difference. If yer video editing then more power is required. If just web surfing and emails then not much is needed.
The bloke in the shop flogged me the new pooter on the strength of saying "It's Windows 10". Well it is, but only cos he or someone upgraded it from Windows 7.
Here is a review of it, and I cannot believe I paid £220 for it secondhand albeit upgraded to Windows 10. Ont net they are only going for about £130 max, here are the specs and a revierw https://www.cnet.com/reviews/acer-aspire-5336-review/

Compared to my Samsung notebook NP550P5CL https://www.itproportal.com/reviews/laptops-pcs/samsung-series-5-np550p5c-review/

Reckon I got stung a bit.
Anyway, the long and the short of it is I don't do either gaming or video editing, so I think that is a good thing!!

Yep, tis the best way (need a thumbs up thingy)
