You don't realise how lucky you are!
My first grey hair arrived at 23. and I started balding soon after.
I went from always looking about 5 years younger than I was to looking 8 years older than I was in what feels like no time!
Wifey always looks younger than she is, so despite the fact she is 8 years older than me we look like a normal couple, if i dare use that term.
You don't realise how lucky you are, until you lose it!:(
lucky, i started losing hair when I was 18

... The Conservatory re-work project has a green light. :)
Here is what will be done:
Roof off and deconstruct back to just the standing window frames.
All areas in Blue get the chop and are to be replaced with studwork walling.
Double thickness "ring-beam" on top of new stud walls.
Create 2 mansard roof shaped gable ends, one bolted to the rear wall of the house, the other at the other end of the conservatory.
Open-trusses all along the new roof (to form a vaulted ceiling), and a more or less flat 8-foot wide platform on top.
Skylight to be inserted.
Fully insulated in the stud walls, new LED downlighters in the ceiling.
Internal long "feature wall" to be faced with reclaimed scaffold boards (suitably pressure washed and then burnt with a blowtorch).
Externals of the stud walls to be exterior Plywood with expanded metal skin and cement render (to match house).

Footprint, max height and eaves height to remain the same.

Wish me luck! :D

Are you just bored, or a glutton for punishment?

The neighbours on that side nearest the conservatory have planning permission for 2-storey 6-Metre extension which will block out the light from over 1/2 the conservatory so it will be an ugly vista.
The change will make it into a garden room and hide the monstrosity from our sight when we are in there. So, its a bit of "change is as good as a rest" and a decent project (we like projects, they keep us active & alive), with a good positive outcome.

Oh dear, what a shame!
Wouldn't it just be a bit easier to remove or cover over the glass panes on their side with a bit of ply or summat, which you could then paint or stain to match the interior elsewhere?
Pardon me, i tend to always look for the easy way out. but if you like a project, then why not.
shame you cannot extend beyond their monstrosity.:D:D:D:D

Yes, I could do that, but where's the fun in that? ;)
Additionally, the revised roof will provide me with a deck that allows me to maintain and clean the bedroom window above (not been touched for 12 years).
The added height inside the "garden-room" will make it a much more pleasant space to sit and relax as well. :)
Win-Win. :)

Just did the Renew Your Driving License Robbery On-line Fingy ...
Driving licence, or road fund licence?
I rang the DVLA tother day to find out what happened to my driving licence renewal which i have to do every three years.
The guy said it is in the system, no they haven't contacted my medic yet and no he cannot tell me when to expect my new licence, not even to the nearest 6 months.
FFS
I need it to be able to drive abroad.:mad::mad::mad::mad:
(Sorry to moan!):(

Dribbling License, did my Global Health Insurance Card too ...

Interesting. I have done mine three times now and have never had to wait for it - and no medic contact ever made. ???? - is it a very new requirement?
Mine is cos I had a menigioma. This was discovered when out of the blue i had a seizure.
I was scanned, the Meningioma was found I was operated on by Gamma knife and the menigioma was shrunk.
It was thought that the M was putting pressure on the brain which led to the seizure. i lost my licence for 6 months until the DVLA agreed, with the doctors, that I was safe to drive again. (I have never had another seizure). So as long as I take two pills a day, which the medics agree I do not need, I can keep my licence. (If I wanted to come off the pills, I would have to surrender my licence for 6 months again.)
But many can do it on line, even those who do have epilepsy and are at risk of seizures!
Wifey has to renew hers too, due to her age, she did do it online, but due to the need for them to check with her doc, it took a bit longer. (She takes loads of pills for pain and has a paralysed left foot.)
I daresay if you are simply over the age limit, the online form contains sections which ask you if your medical situation has changed, and if it hasn't they can do it faster. Never having done it i don't know.
