It's when you go in the loft and find tea chests with stuff in them from when you moved in.
Or worse still, from the previous move to that one!
I have a book case full of books i rescued from my dad' s house after he died. All good books though a bit heavy, history arts and culture type things.
It's 3 rows high and about 5 feet long. He died in 1998 and i have yet to read more than one or two of them. Wifey keeps buying me tons and i read those all the time.
Now she wants me to "go through your dad's and throw most of them out, you're never going to read them all." Well what i kept was about 1/4 of what my dad had and he'd read all of them!
Must run in the bloody family.:(

But best of luck with the sort out, not fun at all I'd imagine. :(
Hay on Wye, the book town, might be worth a look at - lots of the traders are interested in buying books from you. One of the 'shops' is a disused cinema! It attracts buyers from all over the world and holds, in normal times, a massive literary festival annually.
Did you see the report on TV last week where the latest craze of the buying public is to buy old books for 'show' as they try to copy all the 'experts' they have seen recently on Zoom TV backgrounds? :D:D:D

Guid evening

Knackered again, 8 mile walk, so with upper body yesterday I'm pure ripped !
Car wise the 90 passenger side door lock actuator seems to have given up the ghost
So will order (approx £40 from DLS) and replace it this weekend.
My son received great news, has a conditional acceptance to Glasgow University which is great as only a bus ride away so no digs to pay for.
Result, my lads been paying rent for the last 6 months and living at home eating all my food
Took him back a couple of days cos he needs the library....

We have a friend who used to have a music shop in Hay-on-Wye.
Knew about the book festival and did see the "thing" about peeps wanting books on their shelves to impress the Zoomers et al.
Last time I tried to sell old books I nearly had to take them to the tip.:(
But i think if I do decide to try and sell any, I will use ABebooks
https://www.abebooks.co.uk/?&cm_mmc...MI7PbInrDL7gIVi57tCh2O7wLZEAAYASAAEgKzz_D_BwE
After all, that is where Wifey finds the books for me as she can't get them elsewhere. Question is, can I be bovvered?
They're such heavy things to have to do the post and packing thing on.
I did think about selling the Kit car magazines as they are, because some of them do command reasonable prices on the Bay, but again, can I be rsed? I could always photocopy any interesting articles. And frankly there are not that many!
I have still to finish off the Landy ones.
we'll see!
but that will clear a huge amount of shelf space in what we laughingly call "the study"! then I won't need to shift the books, just yet!

Apologies @derwendolly

I collected my New "varifocal" glasses this morning. :)
One pair combining the requirements for both reading & Driving, because I was forever struggling with the wrong glasses for the task perched on my face.
Even worse, sometimes with one pair "parked" on top of my head getting all greasy and one pair on my nose, often the wrong one for the wrong job. :(
Well these are great and I can both drive AND see the sat-nav/instruments etc. etc.:D
But.... reading a PC screen.....C-R-A-P! :( ....and the switching between modes makes my head hurt. Maybe I will get used to them. If not, then I guess the 400+ notes was just wasted.
I need to give it a fair test over a period of time I think.

Stay with it, just keep moving them up and down your nose until you get it to where it is of use. (But I have to say my eyesight is not that bad and i principally bought them for driving just as you say, so i could see a long way ahead and see the instruments properly.)
Best of luck.

They can take a bit of getting used too, becarfull of little steps and try not to wizz your head around looking on the shelves in a shop (makes my head feel funny). I also find that sometimes my straight lines dont long straight but actually are.
But once used to them fantastic things:). When i do wear contacts they are also varifocal there even better than the glasses.

You may have to adjust your seating position/Height for working on the PC

Good luck and persevere its worth it.

I tried those contacts after years of wearing ones for short sightedness, which I loved but sadly my left eye didn't anymore. just couldn't get on with the bifocal ones. Couldn't make them work for me. The optician gave me loads of types to try and i really was keen to be able to get back to lenses, but none of them panned out. I'd have worn soft ones, if i could, with reading glasses if necessary, but couldn't get on with them either after 35 odd years of hard lens wearing.
So now either nothing in good light or varifocals, in rubbish light, like now!

I've been varifocals for about 50 years. They are an 'acquired art' but once you get used to them you will never look back (!). The technique is that in order to make use of all the different focal 'channels' you have to move your head as opposed to just using the movement of the eyes.
Good luck.

DD, why not do it in the middle of the nite, or really early in the morning? As you seem to wake up early. Like wot Wifey does. That way she gets a slot when she wants it. (Bit of a pain but it is only once a week !):):):)

Wodger put on yer porritch?
We put honey on but I like dark , dark, brown sugar!

Morning all.

OOOOooo nice brown sugar....
I used to put a bit of sugar on it but I sacked sugar last February so its just milk.

That is indeed the "trick" to it. When I told the optician that I was not keen on becoming a "nodding dog" he assured me that that was all "old hat" and the newer lenses were far more subtle. I think he fibbed. ;)
