One of my son's (35YO) contacted me today to say....
"Hey Dad, WE just bought a table. Wifey went up there to collect it and.... it won't fit in her car, it is 6 foot long and the rear door won't shut, can you go grab it for us?".
"NO says I. You bought it, your problem, won't fit in a rangie with the rear shut either; why should I empty out my boot, and fäck about dropping all my seats and drive around with my rear tailgate all "bungied-up" just to save you trouble?; that's what you can do just as easily".
Harrumph..... grumpy responses...like I am being unreasonable. FFS...I didn't buy a table from a company that doesn't effing deliver they did.
WTF is it with kids....don't they ever grow up/Man-up?
Wifey needs to go back into the shop and buy a length of rope/cord/shock cord. And learn how to tie a knot!

Finally emptied both cars. 22 boxes, or 132 bottles, of wine and Champagne the chancellor will not get his mucky paws on. After the B word this would cost us £211 in duty:(.
So you can see why we did this!
Yes, another pleasure denied to you and me by the xenophobes. A huge pity: I've had 300 bottles in Hippocrates before now. Really used to enjoy wine but apparently hating foreigners is more important.

I think we have to hope we can just avoid the VAT in France and also in the UK.
But tbh we often avoid VAT over there anyway simply by paying cash. Getting a bill is a bit more difficult but we still did it. It'll be interesting to see how the customs peeps take it all.

I'm down to my last case now and I don't suppose (even if casual foreign travel is ever permitted again) I'll be able to buy enough to make the trip worthwhile. I guess that was always part of the Haters' plan.

Short trips, i.e. under three months should not be a problem. It is peeps like us who want to do 180 days at a time who will have to get long-term visas.
But yes, the booze cruise days may well be gone.:(
As you were getting short, didn't you get the urge to go over and stock up? Did you never get the urge to just make the booze buying part of a holiday?
We went a bit potty to ensure our cellar was superstocked, most we ever brought over in one go was 1038 botts. Do have to watch it though. We have since discovered that the more expensive botts which are supposed to mature better is a load of bollox. Turns out their exposure to air when in the oak leads to them going off faster. The cheaper stuff which never saw the wood, is all fine. :(:(:( But then our cellar isn't under ground. Room gets too warm.

Very windy out there, but not raining at least.
I am up early today. Window fitters will be back to complete the job today. :)
Paper's got, cat's fed etc. Gym later, but I am struggling with a twinge in my back so it may go badly.
Best get some breakfast on, catch you all later.
Have a great day. :D
