I know they do. My Uncle (80+) has had 3 pairs so far.
But this one was put in only 7 years ago and my wife's colleague (the surgeon) said it was the best available and the most long-lasting.
Good.
Wifey also has one I couldn't tell you how long ago but she doesn't do anything like the mileage you do!

One of my son in laws also has one and he is only in his 50s. (one leg shorter than the other from birth led to spine problems and eventually the need for a new hip) he works outdoors all the time but the surgeon who put his in was both blind and cackhanded. It has since been replaced competently but some of the damage done by the first idiot is permanent.
He is winning his case against the surgeon but you wouldn't believe how long it is all taking and although the fault has been agreed they are arguing and arguing over the amount he is going to get in compo. And he is still working out doors cos that is all he is trained to do. Very painful and nothing they can do about it. He too does lots of special exercises to try to relax scar tissue etc, but much they can do nothing about.:(:(:(

Sloes are Blackthorn berries:)

J
...and we do have some sloe gin donated by a Froggy friend, (from nearer Bordeaux) but I don't think we have any blackthorn bushes on our land. I could be wrong, there are bits of our land we don't even go and look at!
We also have "elderberry trees", now I am revealing my ignorance, would they simply be called Elders? Anyway, they look lovely and all that but we don't pick the berries nor do we make elderflower champagne. We have to decide where to stop!
You can tell I just simply do the grunt work on the land, wifey is the real Capability Brown!

Oh my... sorry to hear of these troubles.
I was really lucky, Wifey knew all the surgeons and the same guy that did both her mum's hips did mine. Came out equal length to the original and has been bonzer ever since. But STATINS and lethargy robbed me of my muscles and Iam building them back up.
Hope your Son-In-Law gets all his compo AND gets fixed. A painful road at first, but well worth the trouble IMHO. :D

So if you were taking Statins this was presumably for high blood pressure? My doc keeps telling me he wants me to take them but he gets a very clear "fuck off" from me every time he mentions it.
And i have had lethargy due to being prescribed Seroxat for a minor heart problem, which were totally unnecessary, and led to me just staring into space for days at a time. so glad to avoid all this cr@p. i just monitor my own BP if i feel the need and it always comes up OK on my machine. so i don't worry about it and get on with it. But to get muscle wastage, wow, that must have been pretty bad. don't envy you the road you must have been on. but you seem really full of gusto now!
As for Son in law, he has been told there is nothing else they can do for him, the damage done was too serious, you should have seen the xrays of the faulty leg in place. A half reasonable mechanic would have done a better job.
As for the compo, well as you'd expect, they keep on not paying him hoping he'll give in and settle for less than he should. He needs enough to retire on as he really shouldn't be doing his job any more, but the fight continues.
Glad to see you being so fit and active. which I had as much Vim as you have!

Strangely.... I have never had High BP. But post heart-attack, it is a "protocol" they put you on.
12 years of that and I felt so weak.
Stopped taking them and I feel so much better.
Without them my average BP is still 106/75 @71BPM so why the heck was I on them?

GT3 spray daily. ;-)
The knee and hip joints probably work differently, but about ten years ago a mate of mine at work had a knee replacement. We had a small wood and quite a few other trees on our work premises and a local tree surgeon used to keep them in check for us. He was ex-army and a lovely fella. He didn't charge us, but asked us to donate to the local church instead - absolute legend! Anyway, while my mate was in the ward waiting for his knee op, this guy was in at the same time having both knees done. I didn't know they did that? Perhaps his were equally completely fecked? It seemed like no time that this guy was out climbing trees again, while my (pussy) mate did not return to work! Turned out he didn't have the balls to exercise it so it seized up. He ended up lying in bed with a machine strapped to his leg that repeatedly bent his leg all day non stop.
Sadly our army tree surgeon developed cancer about 4 years later. He battled it for years, but died last year. :( Whenever I saw him he just talked openly and calmly about it. He was never flustered and even though he looked terrible in the end he never battered an eye lid. He wasn't that big, but a mountain of a man. Left a lovely wife and 8 year old son. I'll never forget him!

I hear what you are saying.
But I understood it was the ramipril etc that affected Blood pressure not the Statins as they are anti cholesterol.

Cheers

what was your cholesterol level
Interesting question James.
They don't want you to know the real value anymore.
The blood tests only give "total lipids" and not the HDL/LDL/TG breakdown (too expensive).
I insisted ona full panel test and lo and behold...what STATINS were suppressing was my HDL, not my LDL.
The key thing is to have the right LDL/HDL/TG ratios not just numbers.
Oh... and Lipids isn't the real issue... its your CAC (Coronary Artery Calcium) score that's important. ;-)

The trouble is Statins seem to be such a cure-all they reach for, without often doing proper analysis and diagnostics.
My ma having been a doc i trust many docs as much as i do a garage mechanic!
I once had a shoulder problem. three different docs, three different diagnoses, three different suggested treatments.
didn't go for any of them.
Went to a chiropractor, he diagnosed straight away that it was referred pain from neck injury in a car accident. One crick of my neck and it went away never to return
But with that BP sounds like you have no problem!

Sad story.:(:(:(:(
But true about the need to exercise the replacement joint.

Quite!
Every time they talk to me about my cholesterol, I ask them, "Is that the total cholesterol or just the "bad" cholesterol?" and they never give me a clear answer!

Borderline and I do eat a healthy diet. but I drink too much. the cure is in my own hand, well glass, really! as long as it stays borderline I'll be OK, but i don't fancy the side-effects of statins.
if you have high cholesterol diet will make little difference ,if yours is borderline it might, ive been on statins plus ezetimbie as it would have meant a too higher dose of statins, i doubt much blood would be flowing through my arteries without,as it is i have low cholesterol

was your heart attack caused by a blocked artery, obviously not a benefit for everyone but for me they have kept my levels normal from very high previous, im no expert but i doubt id still be here after 20 years without, uptil 10-20 years ago everyone i knew with a heart attack caused by a blocked artery then just on blood thinners died within 10 years,so id reckon for a lot statins are vital

I believe, though I am ready to be corrected, that the presence of high cholesterol is often an inherited thing. Like both diabetes 1 and 2. No one in my family going back yonks ever died of either a heart attack, or a stroke, or diabetes. So I am happy about that.
Pneumonia, or cancer got them. And most lived for ages and ages!!!
Only two exceptions were an ultra fit first cousin, in early 50s with a form of blood cancer and my ma, with breast cancer at 59.
Cannot help the genes you are born with!
Anyway, you have obviously got to the bottom of your problem and are getting the treatment you need, so that is good.
Hope they keep you going for as long as you want!
