I turn my own lace bobbins but because I like them slim the breakage rate of such tiny items, is very frustrating! I get to the point of making the neck just a few mils thick and …. bang! There goes another bit of wood for the fire.
Yes. Very therapeutic or, as my husband says 'time consuming'.Do you actually make lace too?
That is a dieing art too.

Wow. Absolutely wow.
To buy the bobbins is expensive unfortunately, that is why I now make my own! You would be surprised how many hundreds you need. When using fine threads - like the filament for the fish, then the very, very slim bobbins are best and there was well over a hundred used for that little picture. If I am using a coarser lined thread, then the 'firmer' ones are better. Wood is the best thing to make the from although you can get some made from glass, brass, bone and pre-1947 ivory. Plastic ones are used by beginners to cut the starter costs. I like to use a linen thread which is specially done for making lace ( an S twist as opposed to a Z twist) and that is not cheap BUT it goes a long way.Time? So what you got plenty of it probably helps keep the finger joints moving too, not an expensive hobby.

Isn't it one of Mackers's used butt-plugs?Looks like a tall egg cup.
That is superb!
That's exactly how I feel about all those restored/ repaired/ etc. cars when I read about them. Horses for courses really 'in't it?That is superb!
