i didnt know we had woodpeckers nearby till this year, the owls you commonly see gliding above the dykes morning and evening, its something that started when the boys built their mum a bird table 4-5 years back, its become a bit of an obsession for me
We do get lots of the other types of owl but not the barn owl.:( When we kept the chickens, it was an owl cacophony at night!! All after the mice which were after the corn left by the chickens.:)

The one thing we don't get in the garding is blackbirds. I can hear em singin, but they don't come in. Thoughts anyone?
Black buds int ma gardin seem ter like shelterin unda fings int day time. Like bushes. Av yer gorrany bushes ter ide tunda? Also av yer got cats visittin cos they will serch ferrem ont floor un put the black buds oft. Same if yer gorra dog.

The trick ter gerrim buds visit is ter av food ferrum un top up reglar. Even int wet wevva, snow etc. Me bobbin be oat feedin when it wur raynon un windy few mumfs ergo. Eye wud av fort e be on setty wotchin telly when the wevva be bad. Eye wos.

Me black buds eatid me wurms oft me slabs by me bricks yer stop em flowf erway int wind. Av yer gottid wurms?

@Hippo , gots bushes, gots wirms.
@jamesmartin , gots plenty of spoil feed on the ground..

Alas, also have a mutt an plenny of cats round ere
we have four cats too,but they dont seem to hang around the bird table,i think because the table has a variety of food year round but more soin the colder months the birds get used to visiting even as now when theres getting more natural food around
