Well, had a phone call this afternoon the car is fixed!
it transpires there was a wiring fault causing an earth in the ignition system - everything all back working now.
I havent seen the bill yet but it will be based on 8hrs labour relating to fault finding and wiring repair
 
it was actually an earth lead that had failed - the clamping points were fine but the actual conductor had snapped (hidden by the insulation) - should have spotted it really if I am honest but there you go.

Total cost, diagnostics / 8hrs labour +recovery from my house to Nene + free up the seized rear brakes = £595.

I suppose that looks a lot for an earth lead but there was a lot of labour to get to it & the diagnostics. All in all im just glad its back on the road
