Dear everybody
Today i confused about something in freelander v6
What is porpoise for prop-shaft and when it's working to transfer movement to rear wheel?
If it for working with switch near gear handle or working all time
 
Oh dear!

The 4X4 (or more acurately AWD) gives power to all 4 wheels to aid traction. For example a 100HP engine on a RWD or FWD car will deliver 50HP to each of the 2 driven wheels - if 1 loses traction, it gets all 100HP and the one with grip gets none. Whereas a 100HP engine on an AWD car will deliver 25HP to each of the wheels - meaning that combined you get the same power - but you have twice the grip with less likelyhood of wheels slipping. If a wheel does slip, the power is still then delivered to 2 wheels each getting 50HP. Its not quite like that as the IRD gearing and VCU slip in the F1 will bias power to the front wheels until things start slipping, but - that's the basics - at least as I see it.

Hill Decent Control (HDC) is an electronic system that tries to stop the car travelling faster than (IIRC) 5MPH down hill a hill. You point the car at a hill in 1st (or reverse) gear, take your feet off the peddles and the HDC will use the ABS modulator to apply brakes to keep the speed down as necessary. It all works very well, until it doesn't, and then you are in s**t creek.

So if you remove your props, you will have a FWD car, and as you have an automatic you will still have HDC - you probably wouldn't in a manual because the wiring will have come away from the switch.

I haven't spent much time in Bahrain - but from what I remember there aren't to many hills so probably not of much benefit anyway.

that is mean, i must fix propeller shaft to reduce load in engine and be equal on tires
that is correct
 
Have you got a prop shaft removed at the moment?

Running with or without a prop shaft does not affect the load on the engine - that is controlled by the "go" peddle. The go peddle tells the engine how much power you want it to generate. If you are at the traffic lights and the go peddle immediately says you want 100HP - if you do not have props installed you will go nowhere - just make a lot of noise and burning tyre smoke. If you have props installed, you will probably beat the Toyota Camry off the lights. So the engine doesn't really care and is not affected whether you are 2WD or 4WD - its whether you want to move more reliably that matters.

actually i bought my freelander without shaft and now i prepare my car to can always travel about 1000KM per month, so i looking what is better to me and my car,
i am not fast driver, so when i fix shaft it will be good for drive long distance
i need to know before to spend money for repairing?

i am not fast driver, so when i fix shaft it will be good for drive long distance
i need to know before to spend money for repairing?

Please ensure all 4 tyres are the same manufacturer, model and same size. Newest ones on rear, and replace all 4 at the same time. Read your handbook for details.
If I were you, I would ask myself why the prop shafts have been removed - "better fuel consumption" is a myth. You may have an expensive shock coming your way. As advised previously, please search this site - all the info you need is here, if you bother to look. It might save you hundreds of pounds. (English).

If your car is just for long distance on tarmac roads - then I'd keep it as 2WD. 4WD will add a little safety maybe, but can only make the car less reliable. If you head off onto sand, then there will be lots of benefits going back to 4WD.

If you do wish to go back to 4WD your shipping list will include...
1) Reconditioned V6 IRD.
2) Reconditioned/new VCU.
3) Possible reconditioned Rear Differential.
4) 2nd hand Front & Rear Prop Shafts (don't know if you can get new ones and 2nd hand may need new UJ/CV joints).
5) New VCU Support Bearings.
6) New Rear Diff Mounts.
7) 5 x new tyres.

i have already propeller shaft ( my friend give to me ), but need to replace bearings and front GAITER
that is why i asked before spend money
all part in car fixed except propeller shaft

You know how much effort has gone in over the years, and it gets my goat when it is totally ignored. Maybe Head-Dunce3 can put a bit of effort into this site rather than promoting others.....". Grrrr!
Absolutely, there is a lot of effort and knowledge gone into various threads over the years and it is annoying that it isn't referred to more. No commercially instigated 1/2 truths either. No need to take a pop at someone who's helped a lot of peeps though. It would help if things were more readily available and easy to find here.
