As the title says i have spent 3 hours looking up my problem so here goes, i have a series 3 swb with a late series 3 109 master cylinder and servo with the valve block on the chassis as well. has had brand new brake lines, wheel cylinders, flexi hoses and shoes, the shoes have all been adjusted, serval times it has been bleed on a mechanics version of easy bleed and had 2l of fluid pushed through with no air coming out.

so
when the engine isnt running the pedal is firm , but when you start the engine and press the pedal it goes spongey on the first press then is fine, then 5 mins later it will go soft again. any ideas is it the master cylinder or the servo or the servo pump ? any though would be appreciated as i have almost finished the rebuild and this is stoping me getting my mot ! thanks guys

either the master cylinder seals are breached or the breather for the servo diaphragm is blocked and wont release its exess vacuume when the pedal is released causing it to feel spongy ( used to get it a lot with montegos and maestros and a fair few talbot 2500 pickups )

where the pushrod goes into the servo cylinder there used to be like a felt disc round that wich worked as an air filter on the intake bit it used to get clogged up with **** and engine crap over the years

i used to just grab the felt bit with the wire snips and cut a little off it or pull the fekker out and jam a bit of car washing sponge in there to act as a new filter for it ;)

bugger its atleast 12 years since ive last had to do that

I'm just amazed that a fair few people actually bought a Talbot pickup!

There was no splashing in the master cylinder but I couldn't work out where the filter was !? Did I need to take the master cylinder off ?
