hi to all im stuck with a little bit of a dilema , have recently bought a roof bar to mount some lights on the problem i cant fix is were do i run the wires i have to get into the car on a switch via a relay can somebody advise me i dont really want to drill a hole in the body many thanks robin

it might help if you shared a few more details type of vehicles, have you got a snorkel etc etc

yep no props i have a 300 tdi totally standard just starting the slow process of createing a off roader its on a r plate 98

right Disco's are slightly more complex as the doors tend to fit better so just running the wire thru the gap at the top of the door doesn't work too well. You can either drill a hole in the side of the roof and fit a sleeved gromit in the hole. plenty of silicone sealant in the sleeve and a length of heatshrink tube will usually stop any water from getting in. Or you can fit a snorkel and run the wires down the side of that and into the engine bay.

christ !!!!! i think i know the cheapest way round this then ??? i did think about running it down the guttering channel next to the windscreen and in to the engine compartment and through the bulkhead to the switches would this be reccommended .......... again as you say with plenty of silicone over the top of the wire ?????

Yer can do what you want with it mate it's your car. I'd go for the drilled hole and sleeved grommit as it looks neater and isn't as disastrous as it sounds if you remove the lightbar you can fit a blanking plug in the hole If your gonna be offroading and your thinking of fitting a snorkel then do that before the lightbar and you'll kill two birds with one stone.

well looks like the snorkel is the next investment then are the reasonably easy to fit as i say am very new to this i need all the help i can get !!!!!!!

Yep Snorkel is an easy job. Post your location I'm sure someone will offer to help you with it when you get one.

well it shant be till late spring or even summer as im building a new house so finances are pretty tight ......... but thanks for your input dont know what i would do with out this site

if your going off road forget the lightbar bang a couple on the front swap light bar for snorkel(you prop wont off rd at night but you will go through water )
summary snorkel good
lights pointless (at least on tight budget)
in case im sounding like a puriton ive got 5 aloft and 2 in front use them getting on building sites in morning use winch and snorkel off rd:D

hi thanks for your input but i do use it off road at night i do a hell of a lot of shooting this was the reason for the light bar as i cant see the bloody trees with the standard lights i have already had 1 or 2 jump out at me but dont go through water very often ................

:) I just ran the wire from my light bar in over the door top and down behind the panel between door and windscreen. Then wired it into the fog lamp switches in the central consol:cool:

ah ha a man after my own heart :p
them trees are bad for jumping out had one or two arguements with the myself:mad:
most people i know go to organise off rd days
