Hey everyone, need sum help on how to avoid the low emission zone, I currently own a 1996 300tdi 110 van which I use as a car, as of next year the government want me to pay £100 a day to drive in London, I live in London so this is a problem. I have three options sell, put on a filter which does not yet exsist, and will cost in excess of £1200 and will need regular testing and does not definelty mean you are exempt, and the last option is to turn the vehicle into an estate with seats and windows in the back it would have to be VOSA registered as an estate to pass the emission zone, but I do not know what legally classifies my car as an estate as it is a three door 110 not a five door. Any one got any ideas.

sadly no way round it, even fitting windows / seats to the back won't help, I've been led to believe that DVLA will not change the taxation / registration class, it is based upon how the vehicle was manufactured.

Gutted, swap for a 110estate.
That sucks man, what a choice, I'd move personally, i have lived in London, crystal palace and streatham. Much prefer Devon

Another one here suggesting you move. There's a whole wide world out there...no need to suffer in London (stress/congestion/extortionate parking fees/high property prices/more stress/smog/crime/overcrowded streets).... yeah, been there done that....glad i escaped.

Sorry mate your buggered - you can only get the DVLA to reclassify the 110 to an estate if it was an estate when it left the factory.

Although from October I won't be living in London (moving out towards Guildford) I'm still trying to get the DVLA to change it to estate in case I get done.

To put it in perspective I have a 1995 300Tdi 110 which did leave the factory as a CSW. I've sent the V5C back to Swansea once already and they replied asking for a letter from LR to prove it's been a CSW from "birth". Following some advice on a different forum I've sent the V5C back with photos first and failing that will try the LR letter route. However they apparently won't change it unless it's original. (They might perhaps if you pay for a VOSA inspection though).

Not even that seems to work as my 1997 110 was manufactured as a stationwagon so I got the V5 amended to say "Estate" sent all documents off to tfl and got a letter back from them yesterday, the guts of it say

"Your vehicle is subject to the LEZ as the 'vehicle Type' is M2 (minibus). This is determined by the DVLA based on the number of seats. The vehicle has been listed as having 12 seats by the DVLA"

So to conclude apparently I drive a "12 seat, light 4x4 utility, estate minibus car" that is either a class 4 or a class 7 come MOT time.
