dunt get away from the fact that if an accident was to happen it would be your fault for over loading the vehicle and therefore you would be held responsable for any compo that was paid out.

Was very little chance of anything happening, we made sure everyone was comfortable and safe and that anything loose (including the bikes) were securely attatched and tied down. All the trips were up a single well surfaced lane and I didn't exceed 10-15 mph in second gear. If anything were to happen there wouldn't have been any 'compo' payouts as you put it, everyone on the vehicle were all close friends of mine and each other and all understood the circumstances. I was doing them a favour out of my own will not for hire or reward, and would have been riding myself if it wasn't for an injury I'd sustained mountain biking the previous weekend!

and meanwhile back in the real world where accidents do happen and paralised folk do sue their mates when things go wrong. things are looking rosey for those fortunate enough to have the good sense to be well insured against the unexpected.

Isn't that one of the pre-pro Onetens that appeared in the original publicity shots? A bell is ringing somewhere that 52 was one of the diesels with selectable 4wd. Couls be a rare beast you've got there, unless someone's ruined it!

Yeah, I've been told by more than one person that this is one of the original promo vehicles LR used for publicity purposes before the release of the 110. Few stand out features differ from the normal 110, door tops for example being military style angled sliding glass similar to series motors rather than the more common wind up and down jobbies.
I bought it off a mobile mechanic who was friends with my father, and previous to that I think it it belonged to a private business as there's evidence of signwriting on the sides of the hardtop and rear door, although whether they're the original body panels or not I can't confirm.
It may well have started out life as a diesel but it's now got a factory recon 2.5 petrol MOD engine with a 5 speed LT77 box, permanent 4wd and high/low ratio diff lock. I've got no history or documents with the motor whatsoever, so can't tell if the mileage of 88k on the clock is genuine or not.
If you know any more about the history of it I'd be glad to hear it, I've done a little bit of research myself but it hasn't come to much!

I'll have to dig out some contemporary mags and see if I can find anything.
All early OneTens had sliding windows.

btw your back tyre is the wrong way round! as a rule of thumb if the treads have any form of arrow in their pattern it should face forwards on the top of the wheel.

Yep I know! :) that pictures fairly old and the tyre being on the wrong way round was the result of a puncture. The wheel you see there is actually the spare. I've since binned two of the Flamingos for a pair of pirellis that seem to work a bit better.
Any information into the history of the 110 at all would be greatly appreciated! I've seemingly scoured the internet but can't find any land rover publicity shoots or brochures, I just find it kind of fascinating that there could be pictures of my landy around that 20+ years old :)
