Whenever i fill up with diesel the pump cuts off way before the tank is full, when i look down the filler neck i can see the foam that has formed on the top, so i have to trickle the fuel in till i can see the top of the fuel and not just foam, it takes ages, is it just the shape of the tank that causes this, or does this happen with all diesel tanks?
 
Nope. Not with my LR90 anyways.
Fills right to the brim, no cut outs unlike the mini filler.....
 
Happens on my Disco as well.

Really annoys me as sometimes there is nearly 2/8 of the tank not full.

Did it in Cornwall last year and trickle filled the rest. Only problem was as I was looking at the pump display I didn't notice that filling at that speed stopped the pump cutting off and put about a fivers worth of diesel on the filling station floor :mad:

My new to me (but old) works truck scuts off after the tank is about half full. I then have to trickle it for the second half of the tank. I ran out of fuel in the fecker the other day when I still had a half a tank in it.:eek::rolleyes::doh:
 
I have not had the problem at all, with my Disco 300tdi.

Has it got something to do with the fuel its self??????:confused::confused:
 
No problems here, but i usually stand a few feet from the vehicle with the nozzle and spray it in from there, it works but i usually get told off by the garage...:eek::D
 
Might be fuel-specific. I got foaming regularly with Tesco diesel, and a couple of other brands, but Shell doesn't seem to do it (although I should try a few more Shell garages in case the pumps at my local one are set up differently).
 
We hire different vans at work and some do it and others don't. Some have the problem at certain petrol stations only. Always thought there was a standard they all worked too with regards to filler neck and pump pipe? To help solve the problem I turn the pump pipe 45 degrees and most the time they then fill up ok.
 
Could it be caused by a blocked fuel breather pipe? Cant say i've ever experienced the problem myself.

Some garages have much faster pumps than others. I immagine this could make a difference as well.
 
My 90 is like that. If I put the pump all the way in it cuts out. I have to only put it in an inch to be able to use it fully.
 
I think some garages slow down their pumps in the evening to deter those who drive off without paying.
 
I don't see how it can be specific to the vehicle if I get it at some stations and not at others. At some stations, there is lots of foam which takes ages to disperse, and at others there is virtually no foam.

my 1984 110 has a removeable 'onion bhaji ' filter in the filler neck.... it can restrict flow when in place
