My 110 is quite happy to cruise at 70 gps (speedo is optimistic by about 3mph) even with 285/75 MT , its a tdi
but of BMW origin 3ltr with 245bhp Rallyraid Dakar ecu . It accelerates faster than with its oe V8 or later 3.9i fitment . :)

This is a conversion I have been drawn towards recently. See how the old 200tdi holds up doing 200miles per week.

It should be absolutely fine! I spent a month at the beginning of the year commuting to Bristol, 950 miles a week and managed with no issues. I have had some problems more recently, but that is just the land rover way!

70mph plus with ease. 2.4 110.
I've been to France and Morocco several times, both long dusty road journeys of 11hours or so, driving between 70-80mph.
I think you've always got to remember its still a defender.

(on a private track) ,,,,,,, mine does 85 mph constant 1;2 ratio tbox 285/75/16 300 tdi fully rebuilt pump, engine, injectors ,boost pin ,i know this as unbeknown to me ,the track is owned by HRH and therefore is private !! but not for me!! so ticket later and speed awareness course later 85 is now documented as being accurate ......lol

I was watching a youtube video and the used the words "flies" and "defender" in the same sentence, which i found amusing. He did quickly follow it up with " i got it up to 70mph" so the car flying is very much relative!

Just out of curiosity, how fast does your defender get to 30-40mph? Do you need an exceptional safe distance before pulling out at junctions and slip roads or are you confident that you wont cause an accident when you pull out! :p

This is my first defender and i've always known they are on the sluggish side on a good day and that performance can drop due to inevitable mechanical issues. When i bought the car the guy had another defender that was a couple years newer but still a 2.4 tdci, i took that for a comparison drive and his one was more sluggish than the one he was selling! The car is currently in the shop for a full once over and later in the year im going to take it to stage 2 so that has enough horsepower to move around the brick s**thouse!
mine flies. will get of the spot before most cars at the lights as they dont expect it.
there is post on here from me showing mine up on the rolling road.
10p engine. now 183 bhp and around 380 ft/lbs torque.
simple upgrades.
straight through centre pipe
k&n / pipercross air filter.
large ali turbo inter cooler.
on the rolling round the remapped correctly not with a crappy off the shelf chip.
small adjustment on the standard turbo.
and hey presto.
completely different animal now.
Been running it hard for probably 2 years and hasn't missed a beat once. 102000 miles ish.
