The TD5 on the other hand, being a BMW design, had at least one eye on the German market. Where, after all, 130mph is a bit slow for everyday driving. The TD5 handles fine at speed and even sounds OK, but I don't think it's very good for the engine. And as for the fuel consumption...

"Sarge! you wont believe what Ive just seen .An old disco doin 115 mph and an old Escort up its arse tryin to overtake"!

CHAVES CRASH ON RING ROAD ..... 1 DEAD 1 CRITICAL

Police were asking for witnesses yesterday after a 2 car accident on the ring road resulted in the death of one driver and another being left seriously ill in hospital.

The first car a Fraud Cosworth was apparently trying to "slip stream" a Land Rover in an effort to overtake and get clear of the black smoke and small engine parts that were said to be exiting the 4x4's exhaust at warp speed when one of the rear tyres of the 4x4 exploded taking most of the front end of the Cosworth with it.

We spoke to the surgeon who is dealing with the critically injured woman driver of the Ford and he said "well there is no textbook way to remove half a 4x4 tyre from someones face" ......... "we are hoping the patient wont tire and slip away in the night".

An eye witness who was behind them in a Robin 3 wheeler said he'd never seen anything soooo fookin funny in all his life.

Anyone with information on the crash or possibly photo's or film of the event should contact YOU'VE BEEN FRAMED or better still stick it on utube so the whole world can laugh at this stupidity.

:D :D
cant remember seeing a cosworth in me rear view!!!!:D

my 95 300tdi auto regularly slips up to 90 at 3000ish,veg oil mix seems to help, but prefer under 80 for stability

I got my old 300tdi 90 up to 97 on the speedo but she didnt like it the old tempreture gauge was getting way high! intrestingly enough turned up the pump and it was definetly faster off the mark and up to speed but would only top out a 76 afterwards!

Im still ****ing me self after reading CaptainChaos post. That was funny as ya like! I wont be trying a top speed run in my Tdi as it is running nobleys and as there is no text book way of removing half a tyre from me heeed I shant bother.:D

Hang on - peak power is 111bhp at 4k rpm right?

Anything after that is LESS than 111bhp. You'll be down at 90bhp by 5krpm with the turbo wheesing to keep the flow up.

So this is saying that at 5k rpm this chap got 115mph in a 2tonne brick wall car with about 90bhp (best guess).

Either it has been tuned or it was a serious hill and tailwind or as suggested it got mini wheels on it.

Rubbish,BMW did not design the TD5 engine - they arent clever enough.

Right definative answer now after 4 pages of guessing, with Tom Tom satnav and the cossie sitting next to her i got 102mph the rev counter was bouncing a bit and kinda read 4ish , we did 2 runs and both got 100/102mph now i know this is disputed a lot but i only did it as a test after spending so much on her!!!! the speedo was reading 111/114mph so there must be somthing wrong there then but as i said it felt quick at the time, when i was doing 70mph the speedo read 72ish although these things are obviously not that accurate i will now set about sorting that.
Incidentally we are 45 yr olds and normally drive her very steady, she's pulling the carravan this weekend for 300 miles one way.
We also have a cossie and a Porka and a Mi16 but i enjoy the Disco much better and dont speed around. we do enough racing at weekends.:D

Now have read all replies i'm not a dreamer lads thats been my name on websites for ages/years i can do or if i cant my mate can do loads of wizardy stuff to engines and have done loads to this only to make her more reliable and better at pulling, seems as if there have been another couple up to 100 and i have standard wheels and new Michelins on , incidentally the Escort is a 450brake monster and not a dodgy FAKE and i'm not a chav! i asked a decent Q,

right just to throw something in the mix. my old man has got a 2001 td5 110 defender has has spend four grand on performance etc and that will do 115mph and still pulling it has got a gkn overdrive which helps
