just need some quick advice/tips on how to replace rear dampers? also which ones would you recommend to use? Thanks to all that looks, Ian

Easy remove the wheel and undo a nut at the top and bottom of the damper the hardest part is removing the wheel.
Type of damper depends on you ie OE standard ride, firm ride, very firm ride, this link may help you decide. Bilstein

Thanks very much had a look under her today looked nice and easy but just wanted to double check. Thanks for getting back to me ;-)

of course this assumes the nuts will come undone and that the top bracket doesn't shear off...it has been known to happen

Of course on some RRC's and I suspect early disco's they don't have a nut but use a split pin to retain the top of the damper easy'er still.

yep, mine sheared off, be carefull, maybe soak them in WD40 for a while before you try to do the job.

Now here's a dumb question.... are there covers on the bolts on my wheel nuts as they seem to move..do they just pop off to get to the real nut underneath ?

there are covers in the wheel nuts used on alloy wheels. They aren't meant to come off, but....they corrode on the inside which makes them swell so you can't get your 27mm socket on to undo the nuts and sometimes, as you have found, they come loose all by themselves. I got so fed up with them that I removed all of mine...this means the nuts are slightly small for the 27mm socket and can lead to them rounding off...
