yer got to remember that the series was designed in the late forties as a cross between a proper tractor and a light truck....theres no way its going to "drive" like a modern repmobile or hot hatch or even a seventies sports car.

as long as it starts , gets where you want to go and back again eventually with nowt fallin orf its a good un.

back in the seventies we towed a caravan round england wiv a series 2 rag top.... now we get people worried about drivin a fender 50 miles..... how expectations have changed in 50 years.

LOL, in the 90's I used the S3 as a daily driver and to tow the caravan all over the country almost every weekend as our pits and hotel. OK, it only ever did 50+ downhill with a following wind, but it did it! Expensive, mind .. ;)
 
If you are looking to change to something more masculine than the freelander may I suggest

Ha Ha... So I am expecting too much.... Im just after a decent nick toy... that I dont have to carry all my tools in!! I can cope with the odd scroggie & spanner and obviously a hammer!!

Mine may have been loud and tartly and cold but it never broke down or was not possible to move, I rarely carry tools keep
It well maintained and nothing should go wrong .... :rolleyes:
 
My Series I was used for my weekly commute from Halifax when I worked in Scotland, and she never let me down!
 
Used to have an old series 2a. Put my dad's Michelin tyres on off his then 90 td. Made a huge difference and rode surprisingly well. It just think you get a muscle memory regardless of what you're in. I jump from my Aygo, to MX 5 both manual to an auto Disco 1 and the brain sorts out the rest. I agree though tyre pressures do make a difference. When I first drove my Disco the tyres were far to hard and it followed every rut in the road, of which there are many. Now at a more sensible pressure it's fine. Go for a series though. I just saw one and brought a smile from bygone days.
