Trying to see why the aircon is not producing much in the way of chilling and I'm stuck at a fairly fundamental point.

I can see the compressor (to the left of water pump as I look into the engine from the front) but I can't work out how to access it to check its getting a voltage.

From above their is no room between the block & viscous fan. From beneath various pipes etc. RAVE doesn't give much detail on accessing the compressor on a diesel, was hoping to check it without doing to much dismantling.

What is the best way of getting to it on a diesel?
 
get someone to put a hand on top of the compressor while you turn the air con on - if the compressor is working, they should feel the clutch "clonk" in.

otherwise take it to kwik fit or halfrauds and have it pressure tested.

I'll give that a try, if I do need to access how do I best get it it?


Also lots of threads here talking about the trinary/tri pressure switch which is often a cause of issues. I can't see it mentioned in RAVE, just a dual & single pressure switches near the drier.
Dual pressure switch
The dual pressure switch protects the refrigerant
system from extremes of pressure and controls the
operating speed of the condenser fans. The dual
pressure switch is installed in the top of the receiver/
drier and senses receiver/ drier outlet pressure...

Single pressure switch
The single pressure switch controls the on/ off
switching of the condenser fans while the air
conditioning is on. The single pressure switch is
installed in the refrigerant line between the condenser
and the receiver/ drier...
Can someone point me towards it.
 
I'm not hundred percent sure there is a wire that leads to the compressor that runs down with the earth strap on mine I presume that is the feed wire and the compressor is earthed on engine have a look on yours you should just see it from drivers side wing under turbo
 
The drier rh side of radiator looking from the front of the car and behind the bumper.you can access it from the fog lamp grill.

Thanks for the tip I'll see if I can spot the wire.

When I looked yesterday I could just about see the drive pulley on the front of the compressor but wouldn't be able to reach it without removing the viscous fan at least.

From underneath I couldn't see it at all really.
 
I had to put this so called wire back on the compressor it's a single wire that plugs into a small block with a single wire on that too I put suspension on high level left tailgate open and a jack just in case lie on your back underneath then you can get to the wire that's how I did oh and a bright light to see.
 
What you mean you can't see it,its right at the bottom of the engine beside the sump you have to get under the car not just poke your head under to get too the wire or for the pulley yes by all means remove fan and through fog but wire comes out from top of the compressor about in the middle and easyer to access from underneath the car.

Thanks to all for all the pointers, found and followed the green/white wire to the connector on the compressor. Turns out I just needed to get the under-tray and bit further out of the way to see it (does any bother to re-fit the damn tray once you've got it out?

So AC & 0.02v going to the compressor...

Trace the green/white wire the other way to relay RL-7

Swapped it with another one.

Hey presto lots of volts to the compressor and lots of cold air to the cabin :D

Only thing that seems slightly odd is that RAVE suggest RL-7 is the left blower rather than the compressor.
