So after many months of reading post after post and looking at car after car shopping for a new one I decided it had to be a defender, not the best car for daily driving I know but I wanted a car with character and that wont be worthless in 10 years time so I've bought a 1999 TD5 110, bought it from John craddocks in cannock. Love the car and am very much in the honeymoon period, here she is...
in the car park at work, just about fits the height restriction.
Had her for 5 days now and have came across a few issues as expected owning a landrover I guess. Lost a mud flap and main beam bulb gone. Easily replaced.
Although we are in the honeymoon period I felt she had lied to me from very early on, it was a 2 mile drive to the petrol station and the fuel gauge needle was just above the orange section when she started spluttering and loosing power about 500yards from the petrol station, eventually lost complete power just as we pulled onto the forecourt, had to restart and drive up to the pump, she restarted no problem, put some Diesel in and away we went, no problem for 2 days driving here and there so just thought she had lied to me about how much fuel she had, however this morning driving to work about 1 mile into the trip the sputtering and power loss started again and eventually stalled, restarted and drove 200 yards then conked out again, restarted and drove 50 yards and stalled again, so I stopped and put hazards on and contemplated suicide for a while then restarted her after approx 3 minutes, restarted and drove the rest of the way to work with no issues around 9 miles, on the way home exactly same issues again, I'm a complete noob to the whole landrover experience and would love some advice on what you guys may think is wrong, still have 3 month warranty so will be taking it back to craddocks but would just like as many opinions as possible from some well seasoned defender owners.
1 more issue, not had any problems with the 2 button fob alarm before today but this morning took keys out ignition to open the shutters at work and upon restarted the alarm went off, I tried turning it off with the fob but it just wouldn't go off for like 5 mins straight, eventually went off using the fob but would rather not experience that again, someone said possibly the battery is low being the reason but I thought maybe it's just the battery in the fob itself and me clicking the off button simply wasnt doing anything.
Again any help would be great and sorry to go on for so long, I understand that these things are part and parcel of defender ownership but I am a novice at the moment and new to this.
