Brought a Landy to LZ11. Yay!!
Hi guys and gals...

Currently on hols in Woolacombe (Golden Coast)and on venturing out yesterday had an intermittent strange noise from under our disco 300tdi. Sounded like something metallic rubbing or hitting domething at about 2-2.5k revs under load.

Clambered underneath and couldn't see anything obvious.

Anyone local fancy a bit of diagnosing to see if I can limp the 140 odd miles home without major busting of anything major or even if its a simple bodge or fix.

Mobile signal is well ropey, but seems enough to get a text in and out.

Ta in advance!

Check your oil levels, diffs, gear and transfer box.

Lift each wheel in turn. Give it a spin and listen.

Check your handbrake is working properly too ;)

What oil is needed and where do I check/fill em.

Gearbox should be ok as new clutch a few months back.

Gonna head home this morning, staying off mway as much as poss.

depends on noise is it rotational like what a prop uj with play might cause or rubbing type from a poor shocker bush roll bar drop link etc worse over bumps

Jack up each wheel first. That may help find or eliminate most issues.

in an emergency any oil is better than none. But change it for better/proper stuff as soon as possible.

EP90 for diffs

I'm unsure about disco 300tdi gear and transfer box but google will soon sort that out ;)

Best bet is try and get to Uffculme/ ottery st Mary or Taunton.

Depending on help available . Best bet is Royal Python as workshop & recovery if necessary, but Tiercel (below) might be a good bet.

Setting out now. Route will be A39 to bridgewater then up the coast avoiding mway until brizzle to get across severn bridge. Then on Welsh side should be ok as FiL can tow us in.

Im at work most of today so not much use really :( No idea what the problem could be either. But if you get nearer to Taunton on the way home and it all goes tits up feel free to give me a shout and Ill see what I can do. Or if someone else can figure out what the problem is and how to fix it I can bring some tools and help with it.

Can probably get down around Bristol if needed. I'm not goung to get much concreting done in the rain anyway

It looks like its something to do with the high/low selector. Linkage maybe?? Am travelling along holding it into high range. Within minutes of me letting the pressure off the stick it pops out of high range. Least I have some kind of temp fix.

Now in Bridgewater. Stopping for lunch. Should be ok from here to home. Thanks to the LZIRers who've been on standby.

Bridgwater
either the mechanism is loose and slipped or the detent is faulty
