Crawling around under JP's motor tonite (as one does) and noticed that on his bellhousing, where the clutch slave cylinder sits ( underneath) is a machined hole, about 35 to 40mm in diameter. Now i checked both of my 200TDi's and neither if mine have this hole, and i reckon that when wading, this us gonna allow loads of ****ty water into the clutch area. Do any if you folks have this ere hole, and if so, wots it for? I reckon it should be blanked with a rubber grommet or summat, wot do yooz reckon?
We also found that all the filler plugs are done up so tight, that neither of us could undo them, even with a breaker bar :(.
 
Could it be that someone has made it to get at the clip on the clutch arm, never seen one there before.
 
If the hole is at the bottom of where the belhousing meets the engine, it is a wading plug hole and should be tapped to take the plug.
 
no.. its not the wading plug hole..
I think I have a pic on my phone let me see if I can find it..

Doesnt bother me much now though, as I have closed the hole

I dont understand the purpose of that hole though... it's a well machine hole, seems almost like its something that is supposed to be there..

why would have someone done that?
 
I put a hole in the bell housing of my first disco after I dropped the push rod inside while doing the slave cylinder it was sat just next to the hole and I managed to get it with my finger which saved an afternoon splitting the gearbox. it's probably something similar:)
 
My 300 TDI has this machined hole, thought it was the bell housing drain plug been left out :confused: turns out it's supposed to be there for some reason :D
