Hi guys,im am thinking of getting a discovery 2/td5 1998-2002,for more practic vehicle,currently running 2000 range rover 4.6vogue with a lot of mods,face lift front end,privacy glass,24inch wheels,stainless exhaust system,k+n filter,kenlowe fans,remap,5 tvs,all in all hence my name pimped range(sad i know)
Anyway back to my question,i want to buy a disco 2 for family needs.
engine versions,1 = bmw 2.5 td unit correct?
2 = 3.9/4.0 petrol unit is this correct?
is the petrol engine the same as they use in the 4.0ltr range rovers?
is the 3.9 engine the same as the previously used in the 200/300 series?
also any idea if my p38 wheels will fit or any other wheels off newer disco's,rangies fit?
have seen a few about but time i get time off work to look they gone seem to be selling like hot cakes.
a mate of mine has a td5 98 s reg and he hasnt had to touch that apart from tyres and mot in the last 2 years and his was an ex work vehicle.
all info would be very much appreciated.

The diesel engine in the D2 range is an LR designed and built 5 cylinder direct injection unit with electronic control. Produces 136bhp.

Responds VERY well to re-mapping such that you would not need a petrol motor unless you have pots of money and like the sound of the V8 (which I do - but skint!!)

Auto works OK but the manual is a better overall proposition imo - better performance & mpg.

The Disco 2 name denotes that it was made after 1998/99 and came in diesel and petrol formats.

The 2.5 td5 diesel engine is NOT a BMW engine.
If the wheels fit a range rover P38, then they will fit a Disco2.

Not 100% sure about your other queries

most people think it is though..bmw approved of the design when they took over rover in 94, hence why its commonly thought of as bmw's own engine. Ps I'v got a cracking 2000 model es for sale with facelift lights and a superb, massively torquey engine that sounds nice and grunty!
