For those of you who have a diagnostics kit, what's the highest engine temperature that you've witnessed, in a diesel P38 ?

When doing long travels i usually plug in my nanocom in diagnostics mode. After finishing a 350km trip, the highest engine temperature that was recorded was 96ºC and this was after a very big hill on the highway, travelling around 110-120km/h.

Cheers

Sounds about right IMO, others may disagree:)

When my radiator exploded at the top of the climb out of Dover, I'm sure it was over 100C :)

The rad cap should vent at 15 PSI and failsafe at 22 PSI to prevent system damage. In the late nineties BMW did a recall of all vehicles fitted with the same type of cap as the P38 because it was not venting and not failing safe and blowing hoses off.
