I assume you mean Autoland in Houghton Regis. He can be quite expensive but when you really need the bits you don't mind payiing premium prices. I've found his advice to be pretty sound too!

Its all very well finding cheap suppliers but if they can't deliver what good are they?
 
I've been driving over to Dingocroft in High Wycombe for bits recently. They sell genuine parts, not bad prices, worth every penny to get reliable parts, rather than crap pattern parts. Saves money in the long run as you only need to do the job once. Really helpful guys too.

Yes have looked but I think I am gonna get xmas out of the way before I try to get the disco back on the road. Received £200 worth of parts for the shogun to get it through the MOT today... tomorrow start fitting but it still needs a patch welding on the sill... really hoping that DB can help me out with that! I know Kev could do it with no problem and that he is really tied upuntil the new year... my grace period for the retest is only a few days hence.

Only reason for getting the shogun on the road first is the fuel efficiency. Really want to keep the disco for laning and off road but I have no idea whether finances will allow for this.

I would still like to fit complete replacement xfer box since this will allow me time to strip the existing box and rebuild it. I will learn a lot from this process (as will Kai) and hopefully we'll end up with a first rate recon unit at the end of it.
 
Jai, basically everything needed to do the bearing, from what i gather its 2 bearings, oil seal and that snap ring thing

Heres a link to that one on ebay, but because of the xmas period i think hes not sending anything

Ryder, that is very true i have had a few bits off him before i spoke to him earlier and he said to take the wheel of and check its the bearing before getting some etc, his advise is very good

and indeed spyderman that is true, its just the issue with losing me job, dont have a penny at the moment :(

Better prices than autoloand? AND will they do mail order? I rarely end up that side of the county so would have to build travel costs into the equasion.

You could always look at Boxby.co.uk. They look like a likely candidate for getting spares easily transported!

ill be honest,,, i loved my pajero, i wouldnt think twice about having another, but i didnt find it the best offroad, but it did only have road tyres, would have loved to try it out with some decent rubber on

Although i am very glad to be back in the landrover

ive gone from a RRC to a paj got some good tyres on it and had a blast at whaddon only needed a tug once but it were driver error as it was my first off roading experience so was just getting use to it

Probably comparably on prices, but I've never found Autoland to ever have the parts I want in stock, whereas Dingocroft I can pretty much guarantee they have it. Autoland to me is a garage that holds parts, Dingocroft is parts only. They do mail order.

If you get the prices + Vat and part numbers from paddocks I believe 98% that I have what you need in my shed put them there yesterday all except the gasket which you dont really need if you use rtv silicone which will actually seal opposed to leak. Phone me if you need them after you check they are ok. If you find out you do need them just pay me what it will cost to replace them from paddocks. Jai

ill check tonight but pretty sure i got spare bearings for my 1986 90 and a spare set for my dads m reg disco so quite confident i ave em from memory the disco seal is slightly smaller in diameter in which case i have one cos it was in my off road box yesterday Jai
 
OK So I started some repairs today much to Luke and Kai's delight. Luke has been badgering me to help for a while so today he got his first taste, just a few nut removals and simple use of a ratchet and socket but he finished the day beaming!

Was changing the anti roll bar bushes and managed to sheer the bush hanger. From the tightness of the two nuts I imagine this is common but £35 for a new one is a bit painful.

Still got to try to get a new gaiter and also found a rip that wasn't mentioned on the MOT so will leave thaht one just in case!

Start on the wheel bearings tomorrow. Got those today as well at £45 plus vat per side.

Its not easy all this messing about with motors, but I'm starting to get a strange sense of satisfaction when something goes right! (A rarity at the moment I can tell you!)

Kai managed to replace the N/S Idler arm with very little help (though it did take a big hammer to get the ball joint out).

Still have no transport over xmas and will probably miss the retest period. But things are getting closer.
