Hi all am interessted in doing the ashwell lanes on the 22nd but i have a few questions 1. where is ashwell? 2.how hard are they to drive? 3.would i need a snorkel and recovery equipment etc as i dont have any?.

its in between royston and biggleswade spurs , you can folla me up if yer want , if yer aint gorra snorkel dont go thru deep water , simple ,we've all got plenty of ropes and that , so dont worry , dont matter how hard or easy they are , we'll always pull you out if yer get stuck

Recovery equipment you will need on any of our outings, but especially Ashwell. If you havent got any fit some they are cheap £12 each. This may sound arsey but its not supposed to. No-one will help you because it creates a dangerous situation. I have towed vehicles when needed but this was a last resort and actually caused a lot of damage to my bodywork but in the circumstances we were faced with at the time we needed to get the mota moved then and there.

You are most welcome to join us and if you want help with fitting recovery points or where to buy just PM me and we can sort it out.

Another thing:

We must keep our numbers down we have been bad latley!

I don't mind going in 2 groups and if nobody else volunteers to lead I don't mind but would prefer not to. Its starting to get silly numbers in one single group. I reckon we meet up for lunch somewhere decent as a whole group do some pose pics but do the lanes in seperate groups. As we don't want to upset any of our friends.

I saw a boy racer lad, in a beat up 90 in Dunstable white lion retail park, wearing trainers and a tracksuit unfortunatly I was in the works van and couldnt ask him to follow me somewhere to get his bling white shiny trainers muddy although I did think about it. Jai out

Recovery equipment we have we all usually share to help one another out aslong as you have recovery points then its a go if not shout we can sort somthing. Jai

As Jai said, but to clarify. Their is only 1 lane in Ashwell that's a bit sticky, the rest are fairly easy. You aren't obliged to do that one, you can go around, in fact you're not obliged to do any lane you don't fancy, we'll always give you an optional meet point.
You will need Recovery Points, these can be either a tow bar or jate rings on the rear and Jate rings or similar on the front. Relying on the tie down rings are not good enough, they're not desinged for recovery. It's dangerous for us all to rescue you without proper recovery points.
Snorkel won't be necessary for what we're doing, we may do a couple of Fords, but we can decide whether or not you'll be safe on the day.
Recovery Gear we've got shed loads of kit between us, so don't worry if you haven't got ropes & shackles. Spare Wheel is a must though.
It's only about 30 mins up the A1 from Potters Bar.

Look forward to seeing you.

what motor you have spurs? i could have some spare ones i had fitted to my range rover

gutted i cant do ashwell on saturday but am doing whaddon on sunday :)

rangey, any rangey spares that you wanna sell let me know too, if spurs dont want em,

ps spurs im in potters bar as well, and i hooked up with some local lads that go out night laning if you want to join us. i'll let you know next time we are out?

Hi Guys

If you want night laning then talk to Glenn321. He knows some great lanes not too far from you and is, to say the very least, an extremely competent green lane/off road driver.

Jai's comments about recovery points are absolutely essential. It was my motor being recovered without rear recovery points that damaged his rear door. The tie down point snapped while being pulled and put a 2 inch hole in his rear door. If he hadn't been being careful it could have been a serious accident. (Needless to say I got recovery points fitted after that!)

Rear tow bar is fine if you have that fitted... Jate rings fit pretty easily (even for me!) and solve the recovery point problem with no fuss at all.

Like the guys say... there is a lot of equipment actually taken but use your own judgement on whether to drive a lane or not.

My disco has MTs fitted but I will not be driving the one lane at Ashwell. Not because I think I'll get left behind, (these guys have never abandoned me even when the going was really rough!), but because I know it could add hours to the laning day and I would prefer to drive some lanes rather than spend all day in the first one...

Ashwell is very much the exception to the rule... for me... look don't touch is the prudent course, though it is always tempting to see just how far one would get before admitting defeat.
