Have you heard of that new invention?.................A Hotel.

Would love to but how often do you have a hotel next to a stuck Ryder?

Seriously tho, Hotel would be lovley although beyond my means at the moment. Getting the landy quiet has always has been on the list since day 1. Opens up Europe and beyond which would be nice. Also driving long distance in a quiet motor compared to a noisey one is well worth the effort and time i wouldn't drive to wales alone before the TDi now anywhere is possible but could be better.

I need to make some kind of rear tent so the rear door can stay open and have room for camping and such like.

If Wales trip is a go which I think it is, it would be nice to have a relaxing drive up there with some sounds on to listen to and not to drown out other noise. A couple of nights wild camping living out the 90 which will be far cheaper and kinda appealing waking up to a nice view. Both counts suit me. Plus the feeling of being self sufficient appeals to me if need be.

knowing that what ever happens where ever we are there is somwhere to get warm, dry and get some shut eye in case the worst happens and for what ever reason we get delayed somwhere be it rebuilding LR's at the side of the road, helping to do a recovery, comp or just out camping.

I don't mind the sound of my Series, it's letting me know how everything is behaving or not. I don't want it to be too much like a "Normal" car, that's part of the fun.

I just don't get the idea of camping, my philosophy is never stay anywhere that is less comfortable than your own home. 1 night a year in a tent is plenty for me.
As for these people who drag a caravan around the country, so they can sit in on a campsite and watch telly looking out at the rain is just alien to me.

If all else fails there's always a taxi or the RAC.
 
Yea I enjoy the being self suffecient anything that happens we can get home. I enjoy finding ways to get around problems especially Landy related. For that reason I never got brakedown cover until adrian flux offered if for 20 quid to get me home.

Don't get me wrong a hotel sounds grand. But its probably not gonna happen for me for the next few trips at least so I may aswell try my best to get comfortable. My 90 will never be car like its an imposability due to those noisey tyres combined with old style engine mounts and the closeness of engine to bulkhead I may achieve a few Db difference. If it means I can stand more time driving it in longer stints then that suits me cos for an old motor it aint bad. Its never gonna be nice like a new mota but towing a wideass trailer back last weekend through narrow lanes and through Db's town I think it drives better than some of the newer vans I've driven at work. Gearing, noise/interior, and better adjusted brakes would make it not too bad at all! All these things are possible, cheap and within my capabilities. Its just time and I can spare some time. Thats the reason i've not been out latley just the odd lane here and there because I'm making progress slowly but its getting there. I'm still amazed my CV hasn't gone since that nelly recovery in Banbury last year I guess I'm quietly hoping I break it so it makes me swap out the axles which are half rebuilt.

I'm not sure that I'll drive that lane again. I think the only way it's possible is to lay a line of waffle boards and drive on them. I inched forwards and still couldn't stop it from sliding sideways into the ditch. It's such a ball ache to get out again. The rest of the lane is pretty boring anyway, so I'll just scratch that one from the list.

Ryder did you get the wheel bearings all done.......


Well now....

I got the wheel bearings done on one wheel thanks to jai donating a couple. Took it ouit for a test drive and found the ones on the other side were a little messed up too.

When I say a little messed up... I mean shredded, completely! Had to by a hub puller and modify it just to get the wheen off... and that was after cutting the hub nuts off (£8.00 for replacements!)

The hub came off... left the remains of the bearings behind and will be concentrating on removing them tomorrow cos the rain had started in earnest!

Consequently decided the rest of the evening should be spent doing something more essential!

Is the inner part of the race still on the stub axle? Last resort is a sharp hack saw and sharp chisel to get the last bit after hacksawing talmost through but be ever so careful on the stub axle otherwise its £50 for a new one! Leave the angle grinder in the garage it will only make things worse last thing you need is hot metal aka the sparks attaching itself to the stub axle you will never get the bearing back on!
