I've got a Hi-Lift, Waffles, Recovery ropes, Shackles, welcome to borrow the kit. I'm at home till 10am tomorrow. I can show you where they are on the OS Map too.

If the disco is already at 45 deg facing the banking and it's only 2' high there, then maybe a recovery via the field may be possible, but for sure get permission and ideally a tractor.

Do try jacking it first though, it's the least damaging. You don't know what damage you're going to do as there are trees involved.

Also... we are at work in the evening so cant do much past 5pm... again, can be there the following morning till midday....

There is probably a fair chance we can't get you out tomorrow, in which case I am working until 2 on Thursday in Cambridge if you still need help.

This will teach me to sort out my extreme mud tyres which have been sitting in the back for a couple of months now :doh:

I know where they are on the OS map now, so no worries with that. If I go to Ryder's first then I may stop off at yours if its OK.

Jack,

Be really careful driving that lane mate, it's good to have a passenger as a spotter for you.

Spyderman and Jack... I think the best plan will be to drive it as far as the hardstanding ends, then just park up.. We are literally just off that by 50-100m so we can walk it and assess....

As long as you come in from the widdington - cornells lane entrance you'll be fine up to the bit where were stuck.

Is it worth meeting in the pub car park at 10 instead!? And heading down as a group??

If my mental image of the situation is right you have driven down the lane and the 2 nearside wheel have dropped over the bank and the front of the landy is resting on a tree. Is that correct?

If so, Is there a strong tree behind the disco and top sides of the bank? Looking at spydermans piccies and the description of how it's stuck I'd be putting the hand winch from the offside rear of the disco to a strop attached to the strong tree and then put the steering lock of the disco on full TOWARDS the tree that the front is stuck on. As you winch the vehicle should come out sideways. The same can be acheived using a snatch block and an old wire winch cable between the stricken vehicle and a rescuing vehicle via the tree. The added benefit of doing this is that the high position of the cable will cause the towing landy to be pulled topsides at all times and should avoid it sharing the fait of the stuck landy.

Just been talking to Rose arranging everything... I would need to be back here by 2:30 to get the kids from school. Is that pushing it a bit?

Ok will meet you at the pub car park at 10. Hope you aren't confused cause I don't think Spyderman is coming.

Ryder I can always drop u back mate, while the others keep trying... I don't mind doing a few trips as u guys are bending over backwards for us!

I have to say that I am kind of inclined to suggest a serious recce first... reserve judgement and take many, many piccies and then consult again.

My reason for this is simple... and I know I am going to be shot down in flames but wtf!

I have some experience of recovery, and as far as I know LRJ has a little less than I do. This is probably not going to be a simple process and I am reluctant to pursue a course of action borne of ignorance or mistake when other, more experienced eyes may well make a different call.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not backing out or calling chicken or anything like that... but this is someone else's motor and I always believe in using the best resources you can get yer hands on!

Ryder it's a hour's drive each way.

Ratty having been there that sounds good. I'm a bit apprehensive about trying to go over into the field, better to get it back on the track.

Cheers Ratty...just let me read that a few times to get it well ingrained!

No problem. You will find it easier to do this technique if you can use the back of the rescue landy rather than the front to attach the tow rope to.

If nobody has a winch or an old winch cable lieing around take an old plastic bucket with you. Cut the bottom of the bucket out and slit down the side of the bucket in a straight line from top to bottom. Position the bucket over the tree and you can then use it as a kind of pulley to wrap a flat strop around. It will prevent damage to the tree and make the strop slide easily.;)

He's cleverer than his name might suggest is that ratty :D:D:D:p:p

LRJ.. you'd best be calling at spydies on the way over to me, depending on what way you are going to go to the lane.

Of course none of us have seen any pictures of the stuck vehicle so I think all we can do is get there have a look, take lots of pictures, sit back and think and go from there.

I don't know about the rest of you but I really want to get some sleep. Won't help if we can't keep our eyelids open tomorrow :p:p
