Sorry Chris my alignment tool is not about here must have lost it. Might be worth going to the scrappy and finding some bar/tube and make one up

Not o worry mate, it was just a thought. I'll check out ebay and buy an alignment tool methinks

when I get around to stripping one of these gearboxes I'll find the one thats most dead and I'll cut down an input shaft but I need some time, some space a clean bench and got none of either at the moment.

I have bench, angle grinder, space .... what else did you need? Anything to save a tenner or so!

sPYDIE... the difference is that DB knows what he is doing. Starting with the right tool gives me a headstart!

Since Jai mentions it....

I have the sump off... the gearbox out and the flywheel and rear bearing oil seal removed. Is there anything else I should check or replace as a matter of course while I am there...

As jai says... a cheap part should not warrante me doing this again for a while!

OK dim question but I have to ask....

Does anyone have an engine hoist that I could borrow for a day or two?

I have a good gearbox with bad output splines. I have another gearbox with good output splines but selection probs (which maybe just the bias plate) in which case I don't fancy cutting the input shaft as it can be used. I wanted to strip them both down just to see how they come apart tbh but it will need a spotless bench to get 2 boxes on.

If you want to I do have a gearbox attached to the 88 inch chassis that is a DEAD gearbox if you come give me a hand getting it off and bring your grinder you can use that until you fit your clutch and I'll keep it in the shed as the clutch alignment tool for future use. but will have to be done all between 6pm and 7pm tomorrow eve.
It will save you a tenner!

Engine hoist £30 to hire one from down town. Its on the list to be brought at some point cos it'd be very handy tp have one. Spigot bush. The bush the gearbox input shaft is supported in, in the end of the crankshaft Bronze bush it may only be a quid defo worth buying a new one.

OK Jai... and Spydie... How does tomorrow night sound for collecting the gearbox from Jai... and us going to Spydies to use the bench and remove the necessary bits?

If this is a bad idea... just tell me and I'll get me coat!

Fleabay just sold one an hour ago for £80... renting one seems like bad ecomonics to me!

I'm out tomorrow night skiing. Wednesday is cool. Thursday I'm doing Sex and the City. Friday is cool too. Saturday daytime also.

Ryder its 10 or 12 17mm bolts/studs and an angle grinder thats all thats needed I forgot about the knackared one in the chassis. If you can get to mine about 6ish tomorrow then can be out and done in 20 mins possibly refit another gearbox in its place in half an hour. Bench will be needed for while when I get some time to strip the boxes. Like I say come over with some gloves and an angle grinder and it can be done quite quickly TBH.

Sorry i couldnt make the weekend lad's looks like i missed a good day. let me know when your all out next.
