Update on tonight's progress.
Stripped the new engine down. It's in great condition, thanks Glenn. Piston Rings and Bearing Shells are just starting to show signs of wear. So it's new rings, Bearings, Valve Seals, Oil Seals, Gearbox Seals, full gasket set. All the bits will arrive on Monday, then it's full steam ahead, rebuild and get it back working again. The Southdown Snorkel kit arrived today, it really is a quality piece of kit, I'm going to polish the Stainless Steel Pipe, turn it into a bit of a blindspot mirror.:cool:
 
Hi Brett, got it to this stage at the moment, just been looking at it between jobs should have it done sometime next week, if i don't get fed up at work and walk out.

Kris, That looks fantastic, you'll have people queuing up for you to make them. Looks like it will do the job perfectly and fit in with the style of the Vehicle too.:D:D:D

Cheers mate, will bear it in mind. Provided it is dry tonight & tomorrow I'll be spannerin away, lots to do. remove oil pump & sump check out the gubbins, fit diff guards, fit light bar and then some wiring to finish. BTW any luck getting hold of wire and a bit of flexi??

Sorry you couldn't come out to play tonight... we only did an hour or two but some pretty cool lanes over at Kimpton/whitwell way.
 
Trust me guys the photos don't do it justice.

The shot looking over the valley isn't even close. It was something else I tell you. Will see if I can get something organised later this year.

Anyway, have fitted diff guards and light bar. Will take oil pump to bits later and probably drop the sump and check bottom end and oil pick up/strainer. Hopefully nothing nasty lurking in there.

Will have to wait for pressure switch and pressure relief valve, hopefully Monday but I'm up north for a couple of days next week so won't know until Friday or possibly Saturday but quietly optimistic.
 
Kev, hope it's nothing too serious.
I'm attacking the Landy in the evenings next week, DB is on early's so we'll have a go at getting it rebuilt and in by the W/E. I'm in Manchester next W/E, so can't do anything then. Couldn't have come at a worse time, when I'm away so much.
By Monday will have all of the bits I need though, Paddocks must think Christmas has come early.

I'm glad you are in the home straight. Did you and DB want to shang hi my compressor this week? I won't be needing it and it might be useful to you guys, I have a nut gun and air ratchet. You've got my number, give me a call and let me know.

Leonberger, where you bin hidin fella. Guess you been workin too hard as well. Sounds like you're planning to turn the disco into a mean laning machine, once you get started you'll never get finished coz there's always something else to bolt on!!

Anyway, gonna go lay under the Rangie and get covered in oil (again!) catch yoos all later.

Leonberger, My original idea was just some sort of net on the back to hold muddy recovery gear, rather than ****ting up the inside all of the time, but Kris's creation looks so good, I'm going to paint it and bolt it to the back door permanently. I've got some ali chequerplate, so will probably make a lockable lid for it, so that nobody nicks the straps if I leave it unattended.
 
Kev, Leonberger, sounds like you're moving down the slippery slope like me. There's always something more that can be done to improve a Landy, little bit here, little bit there. It's knowing where to stop that's the hard bit.
I had the same problem when I used to drag race years ago. Going a little bit quicker costs a lot of money. Same for off road, you get to a reasonable level of capability and to get better starts costing big bucks.
 
It's a bloody conspiracy.

Want to fix the motor and the rain just keeps on coming. I even tidied up the garage hopin it would stop so I could take the blasted oil pump off. And before anybody asks, no, you can't get the Rangie in the garage coz the garage is too small for a Rangie or pretty much anything bigger than a mini.

Pram, toys - chuck!!!

Gettin frustrated:mad: At this rate, it'll have to wait 'til next weekend which means no playtime for me this coming week:(

Nice and sunny here! It ****ed it down yesterday though. Im near Teignmouth, even went into the sea today. There is a lane that runs right behind the campsite so it should be fun in a ford focus! You gotta at least try these things! Pics to follow lol you guys thing in joking! Lol! Jai

Well guys, things is looking up:)

The rain stopped, the sun put its' hat on and I got covered in oil. Oil pump removed, screens nice and clean and a pressure relief valve stuck open.

Haven't bothered taking the sump off, don't think there is a problem in there, so parts should hopefully be here Monday but can't fit them until at least Wednesday, but it shouldn't take long.

Will be back in action later this week:D
